FAI Junior Cup

12 o'clock and then on Saturday and Sunday from 2 o'clock our music and sport programmes will bring you live updates from all of the weekend's games with Hurling taking centre stage but we can't forget about our various Kilkenny sides who are in action across the Kilkenny and District League in soccer as well we'll have updates over the two days and indeed offside on Tuesday night we'll look back on all of the action plus speak to some evergreen legends of old because the FAI Junior Cup Final is just 8 days away now The Kilkenny champions will be taking on Coachford of Cork, down in Cork, next Saturday week.

It's a two o'clock kick-off.

It's their third FAI Junior Cup final in their history, Evergreen, and Community Radio Kilkenny City will be there to see it.

We've been supporting Evergreen every step of the way, and that will continue tomorrow week.

That's the first Saturday in October, and we wish Gary Maher and co. the very best of luck in that FAI Junior Cup final.

Just to mention, obviously, the following Saturday, 3rd of October, Evergreen are in the FAI Junior Cup Final against Cork from Cork.

That's on in Turner's Cross.

I'm sure we'll grab as many lads from Kilkenny as we can for a word when we're down there.

And next Tuesday night, we will have one lad that played in the 1984 FAI Junior Cup Final for Evergreen.

And we'll have someone that was very actively involved when Sheriff beat them in 17, I think it was.

talk to us oh league structures so our formation meeting was on well our first league management meeting slash formation meeting was on on Thursday night and we announced our divisions and structures for the year so the premier is as was last year with the exception of Hanover and Slaney have swapped positions so we've nine teams who will play each other home and away the start on the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of October so obviously it's two rounds as I said and The plan would be that once we get it started, we try and do as we did last year.

The only team we're going to have on our downside this year is the FAI Junior Cup is back in the calendar.

So that has potential to cause a little bit of chaos.

If you look at the success that you've had and Mark I'll bring you in on this one because you've experienced it more than most.

You know, you've seen the season that you've had, the last couple of seasons you've had, you know, success at domestic level, great runs in the FAI Junior Cup, great runs in the Conor Cup.

I mean, this is something that seems to have happened out of the blue, but it's not.

It's the years of development that went before it.

Now you've got the so-called young whippersnappers, Colgate, coming through.

And it can only be good for football when you have more teams like that that have that kind of competitiveness.

Yeah like if I was to discuss I suppose like the last few years since I've come back involved with the junior team I suppose I have to give a massive amount of credit to my brother Peter he had a vision and I didn't really believe him at the time I think it was around 2018-19 where him and Neil my brother were planning on going back to Colgate to play and I was actually playing with Galway Knight at the time but I just happened to be leaving at the time so he kind of convinced me to go play Division 2 football I was like why not just go and enjoy myself with my brothers and then it just became nearly like an obsession and we kind of steamrolled through Division 2 and 1 and then our first year up in the Premier I think we came like 4th and we got to the quarter final of the FAI Junior Cup and like the memories from that were like will be with us for life and then we probably lulled a bit for two years while still playing at a pretty decent level like we were getting to like a kind of cup semi and still coming mid-table in the Premier but we were definitely struggling a bit and then two summers ago now Peter told me that he's going to hang up the boots and he said I'm going to have to finish what I set out what I wanted to start

which he has definitely done

So he obviously didn't line out for the Lenmore hurlers yesterday.

But it looks like he's not going to have an FAI Junior Cup final to worry about.

But this game has started here.

Earlier we had the big news from Castlebar with Liam Kelly-Rourke and Tommy Hackett that Evergreen were 3-1 winners in the FAI Junior Cup that defeated Castlebar Celtic and they're now in the FAI Junior Cup final.

I think that's generally played at the Aviva Stadium.

But yeah, it's fascinating watching the racing on the beach.

But I just want to give a special shout out to Trim Celtic, who played Coachford from Cork in the FAI Junior Cup semi-final.

They were the first team from Mead ever to get to a semi-final.

And we're bidding, obviously, then to become the first team from Mead to get to an FAI Junior Cup.

It's the biggest...

Amateur Cup competition in Europe.

But we've got plenty to talk about as always guys.

Evergreen are into their third FAI Junior Cup final in their history and they're going to be looking to make it a winning one.

Domestically we've had the first silverware of the season given out as well with Freeboots retaining the Mock Lawler.

Premier League Cup on the weekend and we'll be talking about all of the results and upcoming fixtures and in the third part as always we will be speaking of course about everything across the water in the Premier League.
