It's a crucial inclusion when we talk about DC games.
speaker_1HOST
21:15
It is based on Bill Willingham's Fables comic series, which was published under DC's Vertigo imprint.
speaker_0HOST
21:21
Right.
speaker_1HOST
21:21
The Vertigo imprint is where DC told its darker, more mature non-superhero stories.

I, I think Vanessa will like Alpha Protocol.
Matthew Van ZantHOST
66:50
I know that Wolf Among Us doesn't have for a lot of people, like- People don't really consider the, how it ties to, you know, Fables, the thing it's based on.
Matthew Van ZantHOST
66:59
Um, and I really loved Fables, and, uh, it was great.
Matthew Van ZantHOST
67:04
And, uh, Bill Willingham was, you know, a big old conservative.
Matthew Van ZantHOST
67:08
I don't know if he turned into, like, a big Trumpy douchebag or what happened with him, to be honest with you.

Hello.
Elwood JonesHOST

Tonight we're going to be looking at the Telltale adaptation of Fables with The Wolf Among Us, an episodic adventure game.
Elwood JonesHOST
0:32
They released it from 2013 through to 2014 before being released on one complete collection in 2014.
Elwood JonesHOST
0:42
This is, as we said already, is a Telltale game.
Elwood JonesHOST
2:39
And now they live in secret in Manhattan, with the rich fables being able to live in the upper-right apartments known as the woodlands.
Elwood JonesHOST
2:51
And those characters who have not got human forms or are unable to secure charms are forced to live on a farm known as The Farm.
Elwood JonesHOST
3:04
The game itself is actually set as a prequel to The Events of Fables as it's set 20 years before The Events.
Elwood JonesHOST
3:11
And here you take the role of Bigby Wolf, aka the Big Bad Wolf.
Tom TateHOST

I'm not seeing a Switch 2 release, but I'm going to mention it anyways.
Tom TateHOST
31:13
This is Telltale's noir detective story based on the Fables comics.
Tom TateHOST
31:18
You play as Bigby Wolf, the sheriff of Fable Town, investigating a murder.
Tom TateHOST
31:23
I played through most of this back in the day.
speaker_6HOST
23:14
Exactly.
speaker_5HOST
23:15
And the absolute heavyweight champion of this concept is Fables by Bill Willingham.
speaker_5HOST
23:20
While The Sandman breathed life into historical and folkloric figures by placing them in grand cosmic narratives, Fables takes that concept and grounds it in brutal bureaucratic reality.
speaker_6HOST
23:33
The premise stripped away the grandeur entirely.
speaker_5HOST
23:36
It really does.
speaker_6HOST
25:31
Can a character designed to teach a simple moral lesson to medieval children survive the complex, cynical reality of the 21st century without fundamentally breaking?
speaker_5HOST
25:40
Hmm.
speaker_6HOST
25:41
Fables test that strength by forcing them to deal with corruption, poverty, and compromise.
Steve MoreyHOST

She is a trans author, trans writer that had been working in comics for a couple decades.
Steve MoreyHOST
47:13
And about Just under 20 years ago, she was working with Bill Willingham, who was in the middle of Fables.
Steve MoreyHOST
47:24
Fables was the number one book over at Vertigo, was such a huge smash hit, could do no wrong.
Steve MoreyHOST
47:32
And there was also a couple other books around the same time, one of them as The Dreaming, that was kind of a continuation of the Sandman universe of books.
Steve MoreyHOST
47:42
And so the two of them together started working on a new series that pulled in some of the fantastic elements that you would have from the Sandman universe, including some very specific items and some very specific characters and settings that were very prominent in the Sandman universe, as well as like the storytelling kind of process that you might see in fables.

Um,
Bill ZanowitzHOST
58:20
JSA, you know, so there, there's some very conventional, uh, comic book work in there too, that, you know, that she was, you know, she's able to do that as well.
Bill ZanowitzHOST
58:30
Um, I don't know what her work was prior to Jack of Fables.
Seoirse DunbarHOST
21:37
And we know that they... changed even team the previous team ad hoc went on to make this patch and then but it does seem like now it's it seems like it's finally uh coming together that's the sense that i get yes um but so what what did you think so what what can you tell us what you saw then you didn't play but what did you see what scene did you see and what did you think
Laura CressGUEST
22:01
yeah so they they would take this they were told us that this follows it's only six months after the first one The First Wolf Among Us and if you don't remember that because it has been so long ago that's kind of like based on this comic book series Fables which is written by this guy Bill Willingham and it's basically this kind of like it's set in a modern day New York City but it's all these fairy tale characters and they're sort of secretly living in New York amongst kind of the general population and you in the first one you played Bigby this like kind of half man half wolf or he's a man but he can shapeshift into a wolf basically sort of like he's like the big bad wolf essentially, but he's a sheriff.
Laura CressGUEST
22:39
And then, and obviously as it's a telltale game, there's all these kind of, you talk about choices matter.
Laura CressGUEST
22:44
It's very much that kind of game.
