Ezekiel 23

Two prophecies that come into mind with this are both in the book of Ezekiel.

Ezekiel 23, the whole chapter speaks of Israel, the state of Israel, Judah, as well as Britain and America.

Going to Assyria, going to Babylon, going to these countries that now make up the European Union as lovers.

God labels them as if they're having an adulterous affair, primarily around military and protection.

you know?

And so, and what, and what is discussed in this actual, what is actually quoted here is a passage from Ezekiel 23, 20, where he says, whose flesh is the flesh of donkeys and whose semen is the semen of horses.

And then if we go look at the context of those, of those passages from Ezekiel, we see that what he's referring, what he's referencing to isn't, a physical comparison to donkeys and horses, but rather a spiritual consciousness saying that the, the Gentile who is, who is not spiritually conscious to, you know, and again, we're talking about societies where they're, where they did not know the land, the God of Israel, they did not, um, they were, you know, sacrificing their children to ball and all this other stuff, um, They didn't have that level of spiritual consciousness.

Well, and it's also comparing God is calling out Israel for their spiritual adultery, right? In that context, they're abandoning him for this nothing burger, right? Like this Gentile gods and everything.

He'll go on to criticize Jerusalem's prophets for being lying prophets who are giving false visions and leading Israel astray or Judah astray.

And then in Ezekiel 23, we have another really heavy, brutal chapter.

I mentioned when we went through Ezekiel 16 that there are probably two places which are the heaviest in Ezekiel.

I think that's chapter 16 and I think that's probably chapter 23.

I, the sovereign Lord, have spoken.

Ezekiel 23 This message came to me from the Lord.

Son of man, once there were two sisters who were daughters of the same mother.

They became prostitutes in Egypt.

In today's portion of Ezekiel in chapters 19 through 24, we'll begin by lamenting and end by not being allowed to lament.

And we'll consider if following God is worth it, even when it costs you everything.

This episode will be best for mom ears alone.

And he clearly stated that he has no pleasure in the death of anyone.

But today's chapters continue the consequences of sin when his people walk in rebellion.

In chapter 19, he provides a lament for Ezekiel to speak regarding the demise of the Davidic dynasty.

This eulogy chronicles the impending fall of their treasured city Jerusalem and portrays the wicked final kings as lion cubs.

Judah and Benjamin is, you know, the younger sister, Aholibah, that's in Ezekiel 23.

This was great detail of Ezekiel 23.

And then I go with the 10, because for one, I am sent to the 10 tribes to help find the last sheep and call them back, right? I go with the 10.

And that shallow water is shallow truths.

And if you go read the Bible, and I think this is where a lot of sun god day schools fall down, they really don't teach this the way people need to understand it.

And they certainly want to gloss over the part, that I talk about frequently in Jeremiah 3 and Ezekiel 23 and other places, where the king of the universe, the creator of scripture, says, I have two wives.

Huh? Oh, we don't like to talk about that.

Yeah.

Okay.

Would you preach an expository sermon on Ezekiel 23?

I don't know.

I can't say right off the top of my head if I would.

I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.

So I will pour out my wrath on them and consume them with my fiery anger, bringing down on their own heads all they have done, declares the Sovereign Lord." Ezekiel 23.

The word of the Lord came to me: Son of man, there were two women, daughters of the same mother.

They became prostitutes in Egypt, engaging in prostitution from their youth.

... and your, uh, Book of Lilith.

Ezekiel 23:20.
