Randall JamesHOST
39:02
I played Old Gods of Appalachia with my kids and some family friends when I went on vacation, you know, I guess a couple months ago at this point.
Randall JamesHOST
39:11
One of my sons spent XP to become not trained, but specialized in fighting bears.
Randall JamesHOST
39:17
Yeah.
Randall JamesHOST
39:19
Okay.

We've talked about everything there is to talk about.
Randall JamesHOST

The other key mechanic of the game, which is not a resolution mechanic, it's just a cool feature of the game, are the idea of intrusions.
Randall JamesHOST
45:50
And so there are GM intrusions, there's player intrusions, and both of these things play into the idea of having XP.
Randall JamesHOST
45:56
And so we're going to talk about all three of them right quick.

Ha ha.
Randall JamesHOST
38:54
Okay.

And so we're going to talk about all three of them right quick.
Matej LancaricHOST
9:48
Again, another hook carried on a stick.
Matej LancaricHOST
9:51
Again, it's exactly similar to something that Monopoly would run with these flash events, like very short, like... 10 minute, 5 minute, 15 minute events we just can try to suck out more engagement out of you and keep you there because again if I stay for 5 more minutes I can get double the amount of currency for something or 50% off for building something this is the same thing you get triple XP for 10 minutes just by 10 more minutes so again it dishes out more engagement exactly same thing again here you see some examples that Monopoly Go is pretty much shuffling around and again very very similar design The other important thing that these guys added, as I said, now that they know their core, which means the core is starting a lesson, doing a lesson when you get these energy, you know, kickbacks, and then you finish the lesson.
Matej LancaricHOST
10:39
And the lesson is now giving you XP points.
Matej LancaricHOST
10:42
Oh, like, what do you mean XP points? Yeah, actually, we have an XP points and you have a level.
Matej LancaricHOST
10:48
And there's leaderboards.
Matej LancaricHOST
10:51
And in these leaderboards, as you see here, you can get better standings because you get the XP.
Matej LancaricHOST
10:58
That's it.
Matej LancaricHOST
10:59
So again, they have XP system.
Pasta FaceHOST
44:21
I get it.
Pasta FaceHOST
44:21
You... want dungeons to be the primary asset for equipment for more gear so if you want gear you go to dungeons you do not want you know the constant grinding of a dungeon to get the most xp out of that so i get the practicality of making that change i think that is a great change now it's the quests From those dungeons or the XP that you get from the quests from the dungeons.
Pasta FaceHOST
44:57
That's just a little too much.
Pasta FaceHOST
44:58
Because with the Ruins of Lordaeron, I feel like...
QuissyHOST
46:04
I thought that was really well put.
QuissyHOST
46:07
The quests...
QuissyHOST
46:08
Yeah, I mean, the XP inside the dungeons was very little.
QuissyHOST
46:13
It reminded me of when you're in a raid group in a dungeon, and the XP...
ChardHOST
23:32
Everybody
Sick JakeHOST
23:33
says like, oh, it's like Breath of the Wild in terms of like it's that kind of game, but Breath of the Wild has no XP at all.
Sick JakeHOST
23:39
So I'm just curious.
Sick JakeHOST
23:40
Right.
Sick JakeHOST
24:29
Yeah, I guess if
WerewolfHOST
24:30
Zelda 2 qualifies, Crystalis qualifies.
Sick JakeHOST
24:33
Yeah, it has XP, has gear and stats and stuff.
ChardHOST
24:36
Okay, I'm going to throw another one out there that it's a Souls-like, but it's not a Souls game.
Dan CollinsHOST
24:59
Let me just throw up a comment that Stephen Kennedy had a couple of minutes before you got on that point.
Dan CollinsHOST
25:05
Stephen was suggesting, give your mappers some extra XP for their good works.
Paul SiegelHOST
25:10
These
Dan CollinsHOST
25:11
are all good ideas to incentivize what you want to see for play at the table, obviously.

Dan CollinsHOST

print money.
Dan CollinsHOST
33:46
Yeah.
Paul SiegelHOST
33:50
So I will be doing that with this campaign of trying to convince my players, maybe even bribing them with XP to keep records of what happened.
Paul SiegelHOST
33:59
How
Sam SorensenHOST
10:15
Then Fine had the, what he called the secondary frame or the game frame, where we are players of, like, we exist inside the relatively rigid, relatively confined, uh, system of rules.
Sam SorensenHOST
10:28
And, like, I am a level six fighter with X amount of XP, and I have strength 17, and I have dexterity 14, and yada, yada, yada.
Sam SorensenHOST
10:37
And my action...
Sam SorensenHOST
10:38
Or my, my, like, the things I can do in this frame are limited to the actions defined in the game rules, which in RPGs are a little bit blurry.

Walid RaudaHOST
49:41
So if you-- Say, say we were, um, we had subscriptions to World of Warcraft, and we decided to get on a RP server and join a role-playing guild, aptly named Role-Playing Guilds, and we started playing the game.
Walid RaudaHOST
49:56
And if you-- And listeners, if you've ever played a World of Warcraft or a GTA, then I think you'll know what I'm talking about here.
Walid RaudaHOST
50:02
But if I start role-playing more th- And I start giving more emphasis on the role-playing parts of those games versus the gamey parts of those games, like am I playing World of Warcraft better? Am I playing GTA better if I'm role-playing in the game versus if I'm just following the systems of XP grinding or getting my money up or following the, uh, the embedded narrative of, of either game?
Misha FavorovHOST
50:33
No.
