Expeditionary learning schools

Like that was, that's an expedition.

On these expeditionary learning schools, there's like a hundred something of them around the country.

And so we partnered with this national school reform model and paid them a fee to help them guide us in the, in the starving of the school.

And they remained a partner for, It's still going to this day.

I went into classroom teaching and was a K-6 in a single room classroom in rural Maine.

I worked in Expeditionary Learning School in New Mexico for a while.

And Through all of that, continued to guide in the summers, take young people out anywhere from kindergarten through 12th grade.

And when we moved to Missoula, I was looking for the next thing for me.

So for young people, you know, I'd say 25 and under, it's still typical that long wilderness experience is what most people think of when they think of Outward Bound.

But Outward Bound got involved in school reform and there are expeditionary learning schools all over the United States that have taken the Outward Bound mission into school systems.

Right now, Our Bound is working a lot with veterans who are returning from war and helping them to reintegrate more effectively into the country.

It really, Our Bound uses the wilderness really to help people develop grit and determination, character, and belief in themselves.

So if you look at like The Association for Experiential Education, AEE, it was born out of Outward Bound.

If you look at NOLS, NOLS was born out of Outward Bound.

Expeditionary Learning, which is the program that's transferred forming schools was born out of Outward Bound.

So if Outward Bound, if it failed anywhere, it's maybe that it just didn't toot its own horn enough.
