It was interesting as I was naming the records to him, he actually wrote them down in front of me.

And I thought that was, you know, I wanted to go like, why are you writing those down? Um, and then, but then I also wanted to ask him, what are, what are your thoughts? But then I didn't want to, I didn't want to get into a rat's nest there, you know, but, um, it was, uh, it was great to have him on, you know, I did the thrash January a few years ago and it was one of my favorite themes of let there be talk, uh, where I just sat down with some of the ground zeros of thrash, Death Angel and Metallica.

I mean, we were just going through, looking at the Live After Death DVD just to look at some of his fingerstyle techniques.

You know, some of the stuff he did was lightning fast for rock and metal.

what's interesting, dude, is that I interviewed Tom Araya not long ago because he played with his fingers right up until they started rehearsing for Rain and Blood.

We talk about some of the German bands like Creator and Destruction and Sodom.

Are they considered to you more thrash metal or death metal?

Well, you know what's funny is that both Sodom and Creator, to me, when I first heard them, and this is like we're talking 1986 or whenever I first heard these bands, I thought that was death metal because to me, The thrash metal, what I thought thrash metal was, was like Metallica, right? The lightning, Exodus, Bonded by Blood.

The stuff with a little bit tighter picking, you know what I mean? Like a little bit more controlled, a little bit slower, but more controlled.

And I had never met Rick Hunolt, who is not the original...

Yes, he is the original guitar player from Exodus.

I believe Gary came in, uh, after Kirk Hammett left.

So Rick and Kirk Hammett [laughs] and Tom Hunting and those guys started Exodus.

Um, Rick's a g- good dude.
