Exit Glacier

That day resonated doubly with me, as it reminded me that within days, I too would be 60 years old.

On our first trip up the Exit Glacier trail, we had very heavy loads, and the snow was deep and sugary.

We were headed for what we would hyperbolically call advanced base camp.

Our base camp was situated within walking distance to Thorne's Showcase Lounge in downtown Seward.

I was grunting.

Four, as we ferried enormous loads up the trail for the second time, we approached the first tiny snowless patch of ground where Craig and Sarah were ecstatic about their wolverine sighting.

Though late to the event, we could see the animals in their flight from humanity, sprinting, but not quite in a straight line, across the Exit Glacier, like negative images of satellites traversing the night sky.

Five, Craig is always speculating, what would the Beringians do? The Beringians being the humans of long ago who traveled from Russia across the Bering Land Bridge to what is now Alaska.

And I, my first day there, driving from Anchorage to Seward, stopped at the old Exit Glacier, which I sadly read has receded 1,000 feet in the last 10 years.
