And then he talked about the Lady of the Lake giving King Arthur the sword and how most people don't even get the true power of what was bestowed upon Arthur because everyone focuses on Excalibur, the sword, wielding the sword, wielding with power.
Monika MuranyiGUEST

But what they miss is is the greatest power that was received was not the sword, but the scabbard in which Excalibur resided within, because while ever Arthur was wearing the scabbard, he would not die in battle.
Monika MuranyiGUEST

It gave him immortality.

And this represents the divine feminine.

That is one of the things that they're bringing out.

And then just swinging back around to the Tomb Raider G.I. Joe collab, I mean, there's some very cool crossovers that could also happen within the Tomb Raider G.I. Joe thing where, you know, in the Sunbow animation series, we have a whole situation where Storm Shadow is trying to get his hands on Excalibur, as in the Excalibur.
PaulHOST

Lara also pursues Excalibur.

in one of the games but because the games have also been sort of subtly retconned as well they have a new timeline new continuity for her um she hasn't discovered um Excalibur yet at least as far as memory serves me so it would be quite cool to see her in Storm Shadow at odds uh trying to pursue Excalibur even if Storm Shadow is more on the side of the good thing good of things um um he may see her intentions as dishonorable or whatever i think there's a like i'm not here to write it there's great writers who are going to write this okay so you you're already coming up with with future like gi joe x tomb raider 2 yeah there's there's some cool stuff that i think that they can do you know where they can also well they across gi joe history you know yeah that could be a

King Arthur has risen again and again in our collective imagination, along with his retinue of knights, Guinevere, the Round Table, Camelot, and, of course, Excalibur.
Addison AndersonNARRATOR

But where do these stories come from, and is there any truth to them? King Arthur, as we know him, is a creation of the later Middle Ages, but his legend actually has its roots in Celtic poetry from an earlier time, the Saxon invasions of Britain.
Addison AndersonNARRATOR
1:57
After the Romans left Britain in 410 CE, Saxon invaders from what's now Germany and Denmark quickly capitalized on the vulnerability of the abandoned territory.

He lived in the middle of the Crusades, and others imposed the preoccupations of the time on the Grail, casting it as a powerful relic from the crucifixion.

In the course of these retellings, Caerleon became Camelot, and Caliburnus was rechristened Excalibur.

In the 15th century, Sir Thomas Malory synthesized these stories in Le Morte d'Arthur, the basis of many modern accounts of King Arthur.

And then the last piece, the magic piece, the PCs have to secure a magic item that is symbolic of a prophecy in the legends of the realm's rulers.
Matthew ThomasHOST
3:38
You know, something like the King Arthur pulling the sword Excalibur from the stone.
Matthew ThomasHOST

Okay.

Once the PCs have accomplished these four great tasks, they can be confident that Duchess will ascend to the throne and crown herself queen.

So this period of two years we're going to explore does not so much encapsulate peace or idleness, but a chaotic scramble as events unfold.

You both inform Arthur of the river sprites, the willow wisps, and your recommendation that these souls be combined into the form of Excalibur to provide a powerful weapon against the Rot.

I would certainly hope that he would.
Nathan QuadrioPANELIST

Very noncommittal, thank you.
Miriam FitzPANELIST

Arthur is a good man, and he trusts us, but I also know that there was some concern from Guinevere and Brunus that we were... allowed to be at the Excalibur ceremony and they weren't and I I may be worried that that it wouldn't be Arthur that the problem would come from if that makes sense that that they're already looking for an excuse to get closer and that if you lose your title now they'd have a very ready one But then I could be completely wrong.
Miriam FitzPANELIST

They could not care at all.

It is not, unlike Geoffrey of Monmouth's History of the Kings of Britain, this is not a sort of a fantasy blockbuster.
Dominic SandbrookHOST
12:04
Nennius is writing this as... a chronicle i guess as a history and it's treating this arthur as a figure of history he is a military leader who fights and wins battles and this is the foundation stone so if you look at all the later stuff that was then added on Merlin, Excalibur, the Lady of the Lake, Mordred, whatever, Lancelot, Guinevere, Morgan le Fay.
Dominic SandbrookHOST
12:31
All of this would have been impossible without this text from Nennius.
Dominic SandbrookHOST
12:35
This is the very beginning of the whole thing.

But I think it also reflects something else, which is in the late 19th century, a kind of escalating obsession with mythology and for identifying legendary heroes with sun gods or nature gods or fertility gods or whatever.
Tom HollandHOST
37:58
So in the 19th century, Arthur comes to be cast as a personification of the sun.
Tom HollandHOST
38:03
Excalibur is seen as being the rays of the sun, the Knights of the Round Table, the seasons or the signs of the zodiac or the planets or whatever.
Tom HollandHOST

And then in the 1920s, it's all about vegetation gods.

And we established that Excalibur is his vibranium sword.
King WhaleHOST
21:20
So while Captain America got a shield, Excalibur, all the legends about it, it's just a vibranium sword.
King WhaleHOST
21:28
Instead of a shield, Brian Braddock got a sword.
King WhaleHOST
21:30
And he uses it to destroy the Darkhold.
JoshHOST

She's just the Lady of the Lake.
JoshHOST
20:27
The Lady of the Lake, who gives Arthur Excalibur, right? Excalibur is not the sword in the stone.
JoshHOST
20:34
That is Caliburn, maybe? I think that sounds right.
JoshHOST
20:37
It's some other magical sword.
JonathanHOST
20:38
Yeah.
JonHOST
61:44
sword's name? It's escaping me right now.
JonHOST

Excalibur.
JonHOST

Excalibur.
ScottHOST

Yeah.
ScottHOST
