Everything Must Go

The band would release three records before the mysterious disappearance of Richie Edwards as they aspired to be the biggest band in the world.

Generation Terrorist, The Holy Bible and Everything Must Go.

Edwards disappeared between the days of February 1st and 14th of 1995.

His Vauxhall car was found near Severn Bridge, parked and looked as though it had been there for a few days.

So, so this album was released in 1996 is, which is right at the peak of the whole Cool Cymru movement.

So in 1996 alone, you've got, um, the Manics with "Design for Life" and "Everything Must Go." You've got the Super Furrys with "Fuzzy Logic" and "The Man Don't Give a Fuck." You've got debut albums for Catatonia and 60 Foot Dolls.

You've got "Patio Song" from Gorky's.

Perhaps with all that happening, this album may have even been a bit overlooked at the time.

Uh, Design for Life 2.

Everything Must Go five.

Kevin Carter nine.

Click, click, click, click, click, Ed, it's here.

Yes, the third single from the Manic's fourth album, Everything Must Go.

Yes

I think you're right.

And I think for myself, the tie in with Joy Division New Order was a large part of my buy in with the Mannix at that point with Holy Bible and then going into Everything Must Go.

And just to go back on what you were saying, I think you're right what you're saying about the idea of...

The subject, say, mental health in the mainstream media, it wasn't really a thing.

I remember my mum saying, oh, I like that song, the theme from MASH.

But it was very much a no context encounter with the Mannix where I wouldn't have a clue of anything about them and proceeded not to really know anything about them until for the next, like, four years or so.

It was everything must go sort of designed for life, that sort of thing.

That was what got me into the Mannix.

Yeah, I mean, title tracks are always pretty important to us.

I think there's, you know, would be Everything Must Go, Send Away the Tigers, Postcards from a Young Man.

We do obsess with them a bit.

But with this, I just went in the studio.

Exciting time.

And can you believe this is...

They've never released – well, they released the live album in the Everything Must Go box set, but that was the live video.

Remember videos? Yeah, yeah.
