Everyman Palace Theatre

It was built to be seen and heard on stage.

Next week, thousands of students from across Cork and Munster will get to do just that, as the award-winning Red and Blue Theatre Company brings Shakespeare's classic tragedy, Othello, to the Everyman Theatre from September twenty-second to the twenty-fifth.

Uh, joining me now in studio is Jenny Fennessy and Ruairi Lenihan.

You're both very welcome to studio.

And I know you guys are quite busy with rehearsals, but glad you could, uh, take some time out just to pop in for a chat.

And Othello, uh, Jenny, it's on the compulsory higher leaving English curriculum this year.

How different, though, is it for a teenager to sit in the Everyman and to watch it unfold live versus just reading the play in the classroom?

Absolutely.

Wonderful Women of Cork will be on display at Cork City Hall.

And I'll try and give you more The Everyman have a behind-the-scenes tour.

That would be brilliant because there's nukes and crannies in behind the stage and the corridors of the Everyman.

You could be going through them for hours.

Brilliant.

And it was just, as I said, a kaleidoscope is what I'd call it.

Yeah, I mean, there's the one from the stage in The Everyman.

Any one of the Cork people could have picked that out.

There is the one from The Young Offender.

be cloaked with her own form of treachery and devilment, but all in good

fun.

I think, you know, I have a funny feeling that, and I know that, again, it'd be a whole pile limited by what she can and can't do or say even then, but I have a funny feeling that it'll be the most wonderful fun to watch this year at the Everyman.

I was here last weekend and playing some of Elmery and Connor's favourite music.

It was the 29th anniversary of the weekend they were introduced in the Everyman by the great Joe Stockdale.

And from that day to last Monday, they were never parted.

Ever.

But when it was something that she felt deeply... proud of Cork Opera House and proud of all the achievements of all the artists all down through the years who had tread the boards and so some of whom were no longer with us and of course she would have researched it to the hilt and would have immersed herself in it and so it was an extraordinary moment to be there as well because certainly artists on the musical side The theatrical side, we're all very conscious of being part of a very long legacy of artists and that carrying on the good work as it were.

And so Elmery was such a part of that and shining a light on that and reminding everybody that, of the wealth of what we have and the richness of the artistic life that's in Cork City.

So between her pride and her love of the theatre and she would have done the same with The Everyman and all the theatres in Cork.

And so that pride and love just poured out of her that night.

And like, she seems very familiar.

And then we realized, of course, she's like the dame from the Everyman panto.

And like, we're big, we love the Everyman.

We've seen her in the most recent panto.

We were actually in the Everyman last night watching Judy, which is brilliant if anyone is around to watch it in Cork.

But yeah, I love that, like, she's such a big actress, big personality.

So it's interesting that she's doing what you did last year and slightly lying about her job because she's like, I can't tell people I'm an actress.

Yeah.
