European Travel Information and Authorisation System

You gotta love that.

Hey, I've talked to you before about The European Travel Information and Authorization Systems, ETIAS, European Travel Information and Authorization Systems, or ETS, ETIAS.

It's a new program that requires... people to register.

It's really those who are not part of the Schengen collection.

So that was the EES.

And now the other thing that we've talked about a lot on the podcast are- what I call the ETIAS.

And that was supposed to be not a visa, but a visa waiver for non-EU residents.

So for example, people from the United States going over to EU countries would have had this extra measure of security having to apply for this ETIAS.

And it was supposed to launch fourth quarter of this year, but it has been postponed indefinitely.

And I will say, again, we have our version of this, and I've had it for a very long time.

There's this intersection of geopolitical and economic forces happening right now that makes Pristina a highly strategic target for a certain type of traveler.

So the first major force is the ETIAS rollout.

Right.

The new visa waiver thing.

So whenever or whatever happened, so whenever you started the process, whatever happened, if you've been around for three months or more, so if that vehicle has been in France for more than 90 days, whatever the situation, there's absolutely no way it can still be, well, not French registered, okay? So it's another way to put that around.

There's obviously still the exemptions, you're on an extended holiday period, but then it's a problem of insuring the vehicle, and then there's temporary, there's scenarios, but legally speaking, if you are to be considered a French permanent resident, which is the case if you have a residency permit, a visa, Obviously, there's documentation and paper trail of you being a resident now, and especially with the new ETIAS and EES system.

So there's literally a paper trail of you potentially being a resident or not.

So when the vehicle has been around for 90 days or more, and it's not French imported, it's not on a French plate, this is technically a felony.

ETS launch now looks unlikely before 2027.

The European Travel Information and Authorization System, catchy, aka ETS has been in the works as the next stage in the EU's plan for greater border security.

The system would mean that third country nations such as the British would need to obtain an online permit to travel to the Schengen area which would cost 20 euros.

The system is now not accepting applications, so websites currently claiming to process them are unofficial and may be scams.

simply for thought crime, for thinking differently.

And for some of those people, I didn't even agree with the way they thought, but I didn't find grounds to ban them forever from visiting the UK, right? And so the EU is planning ETIAS for next year, the same, I don't have to worry about that because I'm Croatian, but hopefully, but just any thoughts on some of these, on the dystopian sort of future of...

Well, I mean, my thoughts are I definitely don't like it.

You know, anything that makes my life harder is not welcome.

And Carlos and I have traveled all over Latin America together.

Well, listen, the European Travel Information and Authorization System, ETIAS, European Travel Information and Authorization System, ETS, ETIAS, is coming to town.

Now, they've been talking about this for several years.

But Delta Airlines has confirmed that ETS for non-EU travelers, that means you're not a citizen of the EU, will come in late 2026.

And they posted that on their website.

Now, the ETIAS is a required electronic pre-travel authorization to the Schengen area for for visa-exempt visitors from over 50 countries, including the United States and Canada.

So starting later this year, non-EU travelers, meaning you have an American passport or Canadian, you don't have an EU passport, are required to apply for the ETIS online before any date.

travel to what's called the shenanigan area and the cost is going to be about 20 euro so that's about 23 bucks yeah for ages between 18 and 70 but good news for you and me carlos If you're under 18, which doesn't apply, but over 70, no charge.
