Because even though Sweden consistently ranks amongst one of the happiest countries in the entire world when it comes to life satisfaction, there are other studies that paint a way more complicated picture than this.

In fact, a 2025 peer-reviewed study that was published in European Psychiatry which is published by Cambridge University Press, it compared the mental health status of all 27 EU countries plus the UK using a variety of different criteria.

And in this study, Sweden ranked 26 out of 28, third worst when it comes to mental health.

Only the UK and the Netherlands scored worse.
