Another one that's remarkably complicated, Ernie Emesh.

So, Ernie Emesh has also been going on a very long time, and you had Ethicon, Gore, Bard and Covidian.

These are the four different defendants that made this product.

It's a horrific case to hear about and how our medical system works with the approving and types of devices and products that can be used.

I mean, back in the day, it was, you know, wool.

And then a Johnson & Johnson plant called Ethicon was there at one point in time.

I think they're still there.

I'm not real sure.

We had a chance to recruit a very strong faculty there.

So following Mike Henderson and Dean Warren's footsteps, had generous support first from Ethicon and then U.S. Surgical to build an endoscopy center.

um was able to attract a lot of the other emery you know bright and imaginative emery surgeons to think about minimally invasive approaches alan lumsden you know started the vein harvesting uh with uh john um john bostwick and foad nahai started into flap harvesting i mean all sorts of stuff kind of burgeoned out of that that uh that environment and and uh And it was a great academic environment as well and introduced me to a whole different culture of surgery.

The Southern Surgical is a different beast and wonderful in so many ways and just steeped in tradition and really enjoyed that exposure and that opportunity to just generate huge volumes of You know, there are 40 million people that live within 200 miles or 250 miles of Atlanta.

the rest of the MDLs that have settled.

The third manufacturer was Johnson & Johnson, or Ethicon, and they had multiple products.

One was called Physiomesh, which was actually a recalled product, and that was an MDL that was based out of Northern District of Georgia or Atlanta.

And then the two other major products they had were called Proceed, and PHS, or proline hernia systems.
