He had found God, you know, this tabernacle in Darlinghurst, which is Darlinghurst Theatre now, and the word Eternity was kind of written there and took inspiration from that and...

He just, you know, as he walked, you know, he wrote.

He was a family friend of, I don't know if you know Robert Eadie.

And so he's going to use Anthony Kennedy.

He has a chapter in the book, Omniscience, Eternity, and Time.

And Kennedy, in this particular piece, sets out in part to show why the traditional contention that God is immutable, right, unchangeable, cannot be compatible with the traditional notion of God's omniscient.

That is, he knows everything, right? In other words, he is arguing that there are basic Christian tenets that cannot rationally be held.

But what you do for Christ determines how you will spend eternity.

We're all going to spend eternity with Christ if we're saved, but we all won't spend it the same.

Did you know that? Eternity crystallizes your character.

If you don't love Jesus now, and you don't enjoy being in a good spiritual meeting now, and if being in a good Bible-believing church where folks get saved is boring to you, what makes you think you're going to enjoy it any better when you die? There's no progress made after death.

Your character is crystallized at death.

And he comes out as David.

Now the ancients have painted Eternity as an old man.

It's not an old man.

It's David.

Eternity is the eternal youth.

I wouldn't care what artists will tell me.

I have seen it.

Such a conception is merely an indefinite extension of time, not eternity.

Neither is eternity an endless stretching back to an unbeginning past and reaching forward to an unending future.

Eternity is none of these.

What, then, is it? Eternity is duration with, out succession.

There is no past and no future in heaven.

Only the eternal now in which all good is comprehended.

Why? Because even if each successive day brought a joy as full as the one which had sped, we should regret the joys which were gone and no longer ours and eagerly look forward to those which were coming.

As a consequence, the conflict between regret and expectation would never allow us any rest.
