[upbeat music] In today's episode, we are talking about seven common mistakes to avoid when making your estate plan.

Unfortunately, I see these assumptions and mistakes being made time and time again, and I usually have two versions of the conversation very often.

One version is with families who have lost a loved one, and we're helping them through that administration process, and they come to me, they have a will, and they thought everything was covered.

And they quickly find out that there's assets that actually pass differently or pass outside of the will, and they are surprised because they think the will covers everything, and unfortunately, it doesn't.

It's just one little slice of that pie, um, when we talk about your estate plan.

The other is when I meet with clients to actually put a will in place or put a trust in place, and they think that they just need a will.

And I usually go through with them what a will covers and what it doesn't, and we really need and should, when you're doing your estate plan, be looking holistically at all of your assets because depending on the asset, those assets can pass differently, either under your will or under a different document or under a policy of the institution where that account is or that asset lives.
