Española

So, a lot of those.

There was another one in Española, New Mexico, too, called the Rio, El Rio.

And it also just sitting on this totally empty little boulevard on your way to, like, Georgia O'Keeffe's house or something, you know? And, again, it just had this beautiful facade.

But... you wonder like what used to play here what used to fill the marquee and what used to fill the the little windows on the side where they would put the movie posters you know um it was it was the abandoned ones that really stuck with me

But yeah.

And there was a similar incident on the very same day in northern New Mexico in a town named Española.

There was this sighting of this-

I, I know where that is.

Yep.

Yeah.

In the town of Española, New Mexico, on the same date there was a sighting of a strange object.

A- and [laughs] uh, Martin, the reason I'm interested in the Socorro incident is because when Lonnie Zamora reported it, uh, [lips smack] he, he noticed that there were two small entities dressed in white coverall, and they were en- small entities and they noticed that they were being observed by Lonnie Zamora, and they quickly went inside the craft.

My family came into what is now New Mexico and Colorado four centuries ago.

the founding of the city of Santa Fe, Nuevo Mexico, places like Española and Abiquiu and so many other places in New Mexico, and then the northward movement right after the Mexican-American War.

So in my own life, from the floor of the United States Senate to the Oval Office of the President of the United States, I've always tried to remind everybody that that history is one that has been there for a long time.

Unfortunately, so few people know it.

Yep.

Where were you? I was working at a pretty nondescript job, but it was weird because I was a delivery driver, so I'd have to travel from Albuquerque to Taos, Santa Fe, Española.

Mora, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

So I was disconnected.

There's no stripe down the middle for long stretches, since the paving crews don't get up here much, and the piñon comes right down to the edge of the asphalt on both sides.

A driver coming through at that hour has the high beams on and the radio off, because the radio quit picking up anything past Española.

The dashboard is the only thing in the car with any color in it.

The road drops toward a low place where an arroyo runs under it through a culvert, and a dirt track comes in from the left and goes out on the right.

And her husband worked construction jobs that took him out of state for weeks at a time.

That fall, he was in Denver.

He was flying into Santa Fe on a late connection, and she left the house a little before 10 at night to make the drive, which is about 30 miles down through Española and then south on the main highway toward the city.

She'd made the drive 100 times.
