They were qualities that Burr himself also seemed to possess.

During the show's nine-year run, he lived in a bungalow on the studio lot, rising many days at 3.30 a.m. to memorize his courtroom monologue.

So I did this with Samuel Beckett about four or five years ago.

And I discovered Samuel Beckett's favorite reading relaxation was Agatha Christie and Earl Stanley Gardner.

Now, can you imagine his mister waiting for Godot, putting his feet up, pouring himself a beer, and reading a crime novel, Agatha Christie.

What the hell? Is there anyone I'm ashamed or guilty of reading? No.

And so if we go back and we think about the Seth Godin of that time, what was the struggle that you were having? Was that a marketing problem? Right.

So in 83, I was making software with Isaac Asimov and Earl Stanley Gardner and Ray Bradbury.

But in 86, I needed to leave that company to move to New York to get married.

And there was no software company that could let me do the kind of stuff I wanted to do.

You know, that's the thing.

Well, the thing is, though, there could be that maybe maybe he's just been he's been just reading too many Earl Stanley Gardner stories, you know, talking about the Jiggly Hula Girl and Perry Mason's desk or something.

Or it could have been maybe there's a National Geographic article about like, yeah, the appropriation of, you know, tiki culture or something and he's just like he's been reading like yeah apparently like people are putting this in their friggin cab dashboards and everything these things so he uh you know he might be seeing a little hint of the outside like well I understand that this is a big thing that people are doing nowadays but right interesting

um I mean again the figurines began as uh as luxury souvenirs and stuff like that and uh The idea was that they – basically, people did have them in their offices sometimes, stuff like that, but they weren't the jiggly ones yet.

So, yeah, you have that.

And then he next mentions Earl Stanley Gardner.

Do you know who that is?

Earl Stanley Gardner, I think, is like the Perry Mason guy.
