Like it's, you know, in an ideal world, it's kind of like, this is your version of communicating to the director how you would want it directed, I guess.

And on New Girl, once we were in production, the tone meeting, unfortunately, became kind of like my first real, like, actually engaging with the director on an episode and so a lot of the times like my our amazing line producer erin o'malley got the rhythm of that and would like try to you know while she was prepping with the director like she would know that things like would pop up and she'd text me like he's doing this or she's doing you know whatever so because there were certainly times when like we would get to town meeting and i'd be like wait that's completely it usually the tone meetings are set for like the friday before you start shooting on monday when you're doing network so that's like too late to make big big changes so it was like kind of trying to get ahead of that but we started calling them pre-tone meetings and then it was like they were taking so long and like that they just like became the tone meeting because like nobody was going to do a pre-tone meeting and a tone meeting but like they kind of became like all of the designers kind of started listening in just because so much comes up, you know, it was like for us in the dropout, they kind of became like a concept meeting and a tone meeting where it was like sort of talking through what everything was going to be.

And television is supposed to be like pretty organized with meetings and production and stuff.

But I think like, I think doing limited series and things like people are kind of making different rules and like what works for them a little bit more.
