And Erica, I've got this funny feeling you're gonna start describing in gorgeous, beautiful detail that's gonna try to make me fall in love with a horsefly about how they actually savage our skin.
24:43
Why horseflies are slightly different and why people moan about them, which is ridiculous, but they do, is because they've got mandible and a maxilla, and at the edge of these, they've got the serrated edges, and that's the bit that slashes at your flesh.
25:00
And then she has an adaptation for nectar feeding.
25:02
Can you imagine being... having different mouth parts for different food sources? So we're weak, pathetic, skinned things, which is why it hurts us so much more, but they're used to things like rhinoceros and a T-Rex.
26:07
Um, why does the horsefly use this approach? 'Cause wouldn't it be better for it to come in more like a mosquito and, and just, like, have the needle, like, that pierces the skin rather than something that's so savage and is likely to get, you know, slapped and swatted at and, you know, splattered?
26:23
You gotta remember that none of these creatures are specifically designed for feeding on us.
26:28
There's just suddenly a lot of us, and we've spread globally.
26:31
We're like the fast food of the animal world, so in a lot of these horseflies, they are designed for vertebrates with really tough skin and, like, things like rhinos.
3:03
Was that a good thing? Is it, is it working?
3:05
It is a good thing.
3:06
There's so many things to break down in that sentence, like heterogeneity.
3:08
Here you go, you can see just wobbles all over the place, and everybody likes a wobble.
3:13
I- insects love a wobble.
3:15
So you've got I don't know how many, many millions of wobbles all over this garden now, as I say, like ...
3:20
And you'll have different temperature.

7 MINS LATER

[laughs]
15:23
So, um, if you were to go, all you bald people, if you were rowing across a lake, they will all kind of congregate above your head.
15:30
And some of the midges, some of the species, it's great, the females, she will mate face to face, which is weird 'cause his genitalia has to rotate into the correct position first.
15:39
So he's rotated into position, she's locked on.
15:42
She then looks at him in the eyes, pierces through his eyeballs, releases...
15:47
Whilst in mid-cop.
15:48
I mean, they're, they're doing, uh-

No one put that £5 in the Perspex box on the way out
