of Langley, I hadn't heard.
Geoff MeggsHOST
25:43
from my vast distance, anything.
Geoff MeggsHOST
25:45
I mean, Eric Woodward is a controversial figure.
Geoff MeggsHOST
25:47
There was no question about that.
Geoff MeggsHOST
25:48
He didn't have to dig very far to find those issues, the defamation suits, the arguments, the battles.
Ian McCormackGUEST
1:54
Those people are just taking it easy and just seeing who they get to work with on their councils.
Ian McCormackGUEST
2:00
When it comes to some of the more contentious places where we're seeing significant numbers of challengers to mayors, I wouldn't be surprised if those incumbent mayors are not feeling too bad because they're running up against four, five, six challengers.
Ian McCormackGUEST
2:15
when it's the one-on-one and perhaps both candidates are brand new, nobody knows what's going to happen.
Ian McCormackGUEST
2:20
So I think, Chris, there's probably a wide range of emotion that's going on right now, not only amongst the mayors, but amongst their mayor candidates, their families, council candidates and their families and teams as well.
Ian McCormackGUEST
5:15
some contentious conversations that have a sense of allegedly anyway taken place behind closed doors uh and where people in the rest of council and perhaps citizens as well have thought that this isn't parliamentary a parliamentary democracy now we're dealing with municipal government where decisions are supposed to be arrived at we're supposed to see how the sausage is made in open session not in a caucus meeting behind him not behind so mayor sim certainly has has the support of voters from last time he's up against a series of challengers this time so we'll actually see in the next little while whether or not he manages to hang on to that seat or whether some of the candidates that you have mentioned managed to upset him and the other thing of course is then if you end up with a particular party member representing the mayor's chair and then different party members elsewhere we can end up with quite a bit of gridlock happening too, particularly through the start of a term once the goodwill of election night has passed.
Christopher BrownHOST
6:15
And we should mention as well that Ken Sim is also seeking a second term of office.
Christopher BrownHOST
6:20
And if he does accomplish that, this will be the first time an incumbent wins re-election in three terms.
Christopher BrownHOST
6:28
Ken beat first term incumbent Mayor Ken D. Stewart in the last municipal election, who is running for re-election.
Jordan BatemanHOST
2:25
Langley Township, that's where I live.
Jordan BatemanHOST
2:27
Jay Lundgren beat Eric Woodward by about 3,000 votes and his Langley strong slate took six of the eight seats.
Jordan BatemanHOST
2:36
Very clear that people wanted to change in leadership there.
Jordan BatemanHOST
2:38
Langley is one of the fastest growing places in BC.
Matthew NaylorHOST
17:00
Langley Township, Jay Lundgren of Langley Strong has won by 2,800 votes.
Matthew NaylorHOST
17:05
That council will also shake down to six Langley Strong and two Progress for Langley, which was the Eric Woodward.
Matthew NaylorHOST
17:12
Langley,
Ian BushfieldHOST
17:13
I...
Ian BushfieldHOST
17:43
I'm excited to see what Lundgren does in Township.
Ian BushfieldHOST
17:46

We got Alexa Loo, Rob Howard, Kash Heed, um, a- and many others, um, as well, uh, running, uh, in that community.
Jas JohalHOST
25:16
But one of the other ones that I think that hasn't, one of the other communities that hasn't received a lot of attention, of course, is the township of, of Langley, um, with Eric Woodward as the incumbent.
Jas JohalHOST
25:25
He's been on this, uh, program, um, uh, many times.
Jas JohalHOST
25:28
Uh, Matt, your thoughts o- on that.
Jas JohalHOST
25:25

Uh, Matt, your thoughts o- on that.
Ian BushfieldHOST
44:15
easy one, Langley City, where you have Nathan Paschall for Langley City First running for re-election versus Delaney Mack and Achieving for Langley City.
Ian BushfieldHOST
44:25
I believe this is the effort by Eric Woodward of Langley Township to run candidates in the city because they've been in quite the spat over various shared services for the past few years.
Ian BushfieldHOST
44:39
If it's not...
Ian BushfieldHOST
44:41
I still think Paschal has done a pretty good job as Langley City Mayor and represents a pretty good vision for that city.
Matthew NaylorHOST
45:00
The investments that they've been putting in firefighters is good, but he's been a transit ability cycling and sustainable urban development advocate for for as long as he's been in public life, and so you should vote for him.
Matthew NaylorHOST
45:15
Meanwhile
Ian BushfieldHOST
45:16
in Langley Township, Eric Woodward's progress for Langley is the incumbent's, but I like Jay Lundgren's Langley Strong.
Matthew NaylorHOST
45:23
Yes, Woodward is campaigning on his record, particularly the growth should pay for growth principle, and he's trying to meddle in the Langley city elections.
Jas JohalHOST
9:02
But one of the other ones that I think that hasn't...
Jas JohalHOST
9:04
One of the other communities that hasn't received a lot of attention, of course, is the township of, of Langley, um, with Eric Woodward as the incumbent.

Will be interested to see that one.
Mike McDonaldHOST
59:23
Um, bit of a left right or business lefty divide in Maple Ridge.
Geoff MeggsHOST
66:20
suburban races quickly? I wandered out digitally to the township of Langley.
Geoff MeggsHOST
66:28
I think we talked a bit about this before, but the battle between Eric Woodward, the incumbent mayor, and his opponent, Jay Lundgren, is raging there.
Geoff MeggsHOST
66:37
Woodward is a real lightning rod, and he's had a very unique approach to infrastructure by sort of front-end loading all the investment.
Mike McDonaldHOST
66:45
Build it and they will come, or build it so that it's ready when they do come?
Geoff MeggsHOST
68:08
He didn't create them, so they offered their endorsement to him.
Geoff MeggsHOST
68:11
I'm not sure how all that works, but...
Geoff MeggsHOST
68:13
Part of the rhetoric there is to watch out for inappropriate intervention by other municipalities, which I think is a reference to a threat by Eric Woodward from the township to start his own slate to run friendly people to him in the city of Langley.
Geoff MeggsHOST
68:29
So I don't think he did that, but they can see the SkyTrain coming.
