2:13
And we did all these standards like ENERGY STAR and energy efficiency and all of that stuff.
Jigar ShahHOST
2:18
And at the time, people were saying that if we had less energy intensity per dollar of GDP, that our country would go into decline.
Jigar ShahHOST
2:30
Today, we use 70% less energy per dollar of GDP than we did when he wrote his paper.
Tony BeresGUEST
3:27
And before that was doing residential energy audits for existing homes.
Tony BeresGUEST
3:30
My day-to-day work, we do a lot of Energy Star, a lot of DOE Efficient New Homes, multifamily, and I'm a FIAS rater as well, a rater verifier, do a lot of work on FIAS projects.
Tony BeresGUEST
3:41
Yeah, just across the board, I guess my focus now is more multifamily than single family, but I still do quite a few single family homes each year.
Tony BeresGUEST
3:48
And my reasoning for applying for the board now is it's probably the first time I actually caught the email in time to do it.

Lindsay EltonGUEST

I do LEED, Energy Star, still call it Zero Energy Ready Homes, but the DOE Efficient New Homes
Molly OlsonGUEST
10:32
Program, NGBS, all that kind of stuff.
Aaron SmithHOST
50:57
Right, definitely.
Aaron SmithHOST
50:59
Jamie, do you see a bridge, you know, in our past lives or my current life, we always thought about, you know, I do Energy Star, I do Indoor Air Plus, you know, I keep maybe going forward.
Aaron SmithHOST
51:10
I think Living Building Challenge is at the pinnacle of that.
Aaron SmithHOST
51:15
But I've been thinking during your presentation about this, you know, you do Indoor Air Plus, right? you've reached some basic really good health ideas.
Jason BekebredeGUEST
13:06
work? Yeah, better building.
Jason BekebredeGUEST
13:08
One of those first homes we did at the lake, they wanted Energy Star.
Jason BekebredeGUEST
13:12
And so we had kind of started going down that path.
Jason BekebredeGUEST
13:15
And after we had done that one, it was like that light bulb type moment where it's like, okay, that was really not that hard.

It's funny because when you look back at what the expectation was then, it was so much lower than what we would be looking at now.
Andrew WagnerGUEST
2:51
Some of the, even the R2000 standards, you know, were so advanced at their time And now that's kind of become almost more of a standard practice.
Anthony CanterburyGUEST
13:26
Yeah.
Anthony CanterburyGUEST
13:28
So all the data out there can a lot of times be abstracted as a device as well, right? So we've found that a lot of the problem sets out there, like energy efficiency for a building, might require outside weather information and forecasting or historical data through systems like Energy Star and getting or even the power station or supplier that they're using, the energy rates fluctuate extremely quickly nowadays and tracking all of that internal data and making it perform as a device next to the internal metrics of the building, of the heating and cooling systems and lighting, you can solve the problems much more efficiently that way.
Anthony CanterburyGUEST
14:24
Because a lot of the problem sets require a little bit forward thinking anyways to do them efficiently.
Anthony CanterburyGUEST
14:32
And that scales with the size of a factory or a building, like how much in the future you need to help forecast this information and then how much external data is helpful
Ian FinlaysonGUEST
5:42
Then I moved to Boston, really following my wife to Boston and worked in affordable housing.
Ian FinlaysonGUEST
5:49
And that was a period when LEED was just really getting going, Energy Star Homes, Enterprise Green Communities.

Ian FinlaysonGUEST
8:54
We want to do our own thing.
Ian FinlaysonGUEST
8:58

We had a fairly newish new construction utility program that was using HERS raters.
Chrissy KehrlyGUEST
35:25
So I'm sharing the fire, houses, and we're going into, let's say a builder's rep, not an agent.
Chrissy KehrlyGUEST
35:32
And they so very proudly are like, oh, our energy star rating is 100.
Chrissy KehrlyGUEST
35:36
And I'm like, oh, they don't even realize that's where it starts.
Chrissy KehrlyGUEST
35:40
That's the base.
Chrissy KehrlyGUEST
35:41

Chrissy KehrlyGUEST
