What's Wrong With Ferrari?
J
2:06Jamie MuffettHOST
They had less of an issue with turbo lag.
J
2:08Jamie MuffettHOST
Getting rid of the MGU-H meant spinning up the turbo is harder this year, so spinning up a smaller turbo is easier, therefore less of an issue, i.e. bigger advantage.
J
2:18Jamie MuffettHOST
Yeah.
J
2:19Jamie MuffettHOST
But smaller turbo means a smaller output from that turbo, therefore less power.

But it makes sense in this modern era to use a turbo, right? To utilize those exhaust gases.
J
7:22Jamie MuffettHOST
And particularly with the hybridization, I feel like they can figure out a way to reduce turbo lag with the hybrid power, right? That was sort of what the MGU-H did.
J
7:34Jamie MuffettHOST
It helped spin up the turbo, right, with the electrical.
J
7:38Jamie MuffettHOST
So surely they can bring a simplified version of the MGU-H to this new era, which would reduce turbo lag.
J
7:45Jamie MuffettHOST
That's what I'm hoping happens.
J
7:47Jamie MuffettHOST
Some kind of form of MGU-H returns, maybe a simplified version to satisfy the PUMs, you know.
J
7:55Jamie MuffettHOST
But that's what I'm hoping.
J

V8, turbocharged... hybrid assist that helps with the turbo lag maybe abs uh adds like a little boost button to give you a little overtake button otherwise the cars look pretty good how they are the cars outside of the power unit that i mean i quite like the active error on the front and the rear all good cars being a bit smaller packaged smaller everything cool maybe they can make the cars a little bit lighter but anyway let's let's get to some quotes here because i don't want to get ahead of myself so FIA President Mohamed Ben Salayem outlined what he hopes to be the framework for this V8 return.
F1 Livestream 1014 (post-Singapore GP) with Peter Windsor

I can tell you that now, even at 60-40.
P
47:52Peter WindsorHOST
They just need to go back to 80-20 and get an MGU-H back on the car.
P
47:55Peter WindsorHOST
But they won't do that because, oh, Audi won't like it.

Formula 1 Returns To Africa! And V8's Return in 2030!
J
23:24Jamie MuffettHOST
It's not ideal, but you know, by 2030, we got something to really look forward to both the Rwandan or the African Grand Prix in Rwanda and hopefully a return to V8s with a little bit of electrical boost, probably turbocharged, probably lighter, simpler.
J
23:48Jamie MuffettHOST
And yeah, my question is between now and then, could they bring the MGU-H back? They seem to have so many problems with spinning up this turbo.
J
23:59Jamie MuffettHOST
I mean, they were talking in commentary that some of these guys can't do a spin turn because they don't have the turbo spun up.
J
24:07Jamie MuffettHOST
That's how little power they have without that turbo spun up.
J
24:21Jamie MuffettHOST
Half the time you see them just, oh, just whack it in reverse Terry, you know, and, you know, get out that way rather than do a spin turn.
J
24:28Jamie MuffettHOST
But it's all a bit silly.
J
24:30Jamie MuffettHOST
If they can bring the MGU-H back, it'll increase that ability to keep the turbo spun up.
J
24:35Jamie MuffettHOST
It'll increase battery efficiency.

But if it wasn't for Audi, and I guess you could also say Red Bull Powertrains, what's to stop Formula One, maybe not twenty-seven but twenty-eight saying, "Look, let's just go back to last year's, the twenty twenty-five power units"? They can't do that because Audi don't have one and Red Bull Powertrains don't have one.
J
29:34Jamie MuffettHOST
But if it wasn't for that and the fact that Audi really were like, "Get rid of the MGU-H, we want to come in on an equal footing as much as possible with a brand-new power unit with everyone else having a brand-new power unit," I think it's just such a shame.
J
29:51Jamie MuffettHOST
It's such a shame that they can't pivot.

Maybe in the next year, eighteen months, if the FIA said, "Look, this is a disaster.
