And we've also corresponded over the years on different strategies to treat endocarditis.

So very happy to have you here today to speak about Oral Switch for Endocarditis.

As our regular listeners know, and our new listeners are about to find out, we always start the podcast with an icebreaker.

Endocarditis is one of the biggest risks.

Again, if you've had any sort of heart issues, bowel replacements, that's one of the biggest things to get your teeth checked.

A healthy intact valve endothelium is remarkably resistant to infection.

Endocarditis almost never affects a genuinely normal valve.

So something has to damage it first.

Any structural heart disease, any prosthetic valve, any implantable device creates turbulent flow.

Fungal is rare, bulky and grim.

Endocarditis doesn't affect normal valves.

Turbulence damages endothelium, a sterile vegetation forms and bacteremia colonises it.
