It's a false dialectic.

1984 shows you that Emanuel Goldstein's fake opposition is actually run by O'Brien.

And so likewise, you have with these big conflicts with socialism and communism and so forth, and even fascism to a degree, a controlled opposition where they're funded, allowed to do certain levels of war and destruction, and then the system comes in.

And that's who you hate every day because the enemies of Big Brother and the enemies of the people are too, they're kind of too amorphous.

And in Orwell's imagination, it was obvious to him that the personification of these big forces of evil, which prevented Big Brother from delivering Utopia, would be pictured as a Jewish face.
