Emile Hirsch

It's like fun popcorn horror, but it's also so mean and disturbing and dark.

If you guys haven't seen it, it's about a father and son, Emile Hirsch and Brian Cox.

They are working in a morgue and there's an unidentified body that's delivered.

And their job is to do an autopsy and discover what happened to her and just... things happen in the middle of the night and it just builds and builds and builds and you you know you're always on the team of the father and the son and then you you think they're gonna make it out and then you don't know if they are by the midway point and then it's just a roller coaster ride um through hell and it's just a movie that really builds well but it's also fun but you just just the body on the table alone just creeps me out and i feel like if you're watching that on a stormy night alone you're gonna get like the good like popcorn october fun thrills but then at the end you're like oh this actually really fucked up and it pulls no punches so it's one of my favorite movies of you know the 2010s I think it really pulls no punches and I love that one and if you want to go extra bleak to another Brian Bertino movie the director of the strangers the dark and the wicked again if you're not in a good headspace don't watch it because it's super bleak and super mean but it's about a family who's like on a secluded farm and their dad is slowly dying and the family all gathers to mourn him And then just dark, dark, dark, dark, dark, and wicked, wicked, wicked, wicked stuff happens.

You know, I forgot he was in this.

[laughs] Uh, Emile Hirsch, uh, Mike Mo, Al Pacino, Kurt Russell, Timothy Olyphant.

Like, the list goes on.

With Brian Cox and Emile Hirsch.

And it's great.

And it's something I think any horror fan would like.

It's such a brilliant, small, contained premise.

And again, just the fact that they got Emile Hirsch and Brian Cox in that.

is amazing.

... and Emile Hirsch called Wild Iris.

What was interesting about Jerry was...

Yes, Keanu was supposed to be Racer X.

No, but people who were considered for Speed Racer were Joseph Gordon-Lovett, Shia LaBeouf, and Zac Efron before they went with Emile Hirsch.

I will tell you now, Joseph Gordon-Levitt would have made this movie awesome.

I agree completely.

I really don't know how it flew under the radar because it has a great cast.

Emile Hirsch and Brian Cox are the stars in this movie.

And I just don't know why.

I don't know if it didn't have like a mainstream theater release or maybe it was really limited.

So we're understanding that's where we are.

We're in a morgue.

and eventually we cut to inside the autopsy room in this morgue and we see a father and son duo and these are going to be our two main characters emile hirsch is the son his name is austin and brian cox plays the father whose name is tommy so tommy and austin tilden and they're doing an autopsy on a corpse that clearly has been severely burnt like this must have been from a fire and and they're listening to music as they're like taking out the brain and organs like you can tell obviously they're used to this like this is just another fucking day at work and they're filming the whole thing like for a record so they have like a camera on a tripod filming the whole thing as a record And Tommy, as he's going along, kind of tests Austin, the son, about what's happening.

So he's like, so what do you think the cause of death is? And Austin says smoke inhalation.

I disagree.

Th-That said, the performance by, uh, Emile Hirsch in it is absolutely fantastic, and there is something compelling about it.

But there's such an undercurrent of depression in it that you find so hard to get away.

I was walking away in the, in the cold night, just kind of really genuinely feeling alone and feeling pro-- Maybe it's 'cause I live alone, but it just knocked me for six.

the effects and just make it work and which was really fun and that movie so immediately when I got the job they said well we need to probably do a rewrite on the script so I went and met each of the real three main characters actually about five or six or eight of the main characters and just hung out with them I went to Hawaii spent three days with Jay went with Tony down to Oceanside you know every everywhere I could just soak up everything everything everything and And then, you know, just put it all into the script.

When I got to Hawaii, I almost immediately got arrested for a misdemeanor because that character, the Jay Adams character that Emile Hirsch plays, is, you know, very wild.

And he'll run around and steal mangoes from people's trees.

And we got chased down the road and went to the Turtle Bay Hotel.
