And today's episode, we are fortunate to have as our guest, Taylor Black, who is the Director of AI and Venture Ecosystems at Microsoft.

And he is the founding director of a new initiative at Catholic University on artificial intelligence and emerging technologies called the Leonum Initiative.

Institute for AI and Emerging Tech.

So he splits his time out in Washington and also at CUA running this venture.

So he's got an interesting background.

And I just find such a great interplay and marriage between all of those different disciplines.

Yeah, it seems like an ideal background for the Leonum Institute.

So just knowing sort of the emerging tech, but also being able to, I guess, reflect on how this affects humanity and what it means to be a human person and how this augments or degrades that.

He maintains a private practice in Sunnyside, New York.

where he is also the owner of DigiDent Laboratory, a published author of multiple articles and textbook chapters.

Katie Arrington performed the duties of chief information officer for the Department of War.

She advised the secretary on enterprise information management, cyber assurance, and emerging technology policy.

Before that, she served as deputy chief information officer for cybersecurity, running defense-wide oversight of cyber strategy, governance, and compliance.

She began her career federal service as a chief information security officer for acquisition and sustainment.

China's digital Platform Development.

People's Republic of China policies prioritize the role digital platforms play in China's economic competitiveness, the development of emerging technologies, and People's Republic of China global projects in sectors such as communications, smart cities, financial and logistics services.

China's digital platforms emerged in the late nineteen nineties with the help of People's Republic of China government policies that restricted us Internet services firms from operating in China while promoting alternative People's Republic of China competitors.

Alibaba began in nineteen ninety-nine as a competitor to Amazon informed Alipay in two thousand three to compete with PayPal.

Mike has deep expertise in machine learning, analytics, and decentralized systems.

And before founding Trade Verified, he served as the Director of Emerging Technologies at Bardus Group, developing and implementing strategies for providing large-scale machine learning and analytics to key clients, including the United Nations, Cisco, and JPMorgan Chase.

We often begin discussing technology only after it has already been deployed, raised public concerns, or prompted other countries to move ahead with rules, incentives, and capabilities.

With emerging technologies, that window is becoming increasingly narrow.

Waiting for change to catch up with us can mean losing investment, talent, knowledge, and opportunities to solve concrete problems.

Preparing means changing the way we make decisions.

Talent will be one of the main drivers of competitiveness in the years ahead, but it will also be essential to ensure that more people can benefit from the opportunities this transformation will bring.

The fourth is to bring science closer to public policy.

Decisions about emerging technologies should not be based on intuition, immediate pressures or fear.

They require evidence, clear assessments, ongoing evaluation and multi-sector dialogue.

Professor Sarah Pink is an award-winning design and futures anthropologist and documentary filmmaker whose work is influential internationally both inside and beyond academia.

She is an Australian Research Council Laureate Professor and is currently Professor and Director of Futures Hub and the Emerging Technologies Research Lab at Monash University, where she engages and innovates interdisciplinary and international research approaches to offer fresh perspectives and realistic future visions and foresight about the role of human futures in shaping digital and net zero transitions.

She has a joint appointment across the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture and the Faculty of Information Technology.

She has over 25 years experience of working with academic and industry research partners internationally and frequently gives keynote and public lectures in academic and business environments internationally.

I'm thrilled to welcome Professor Sarah Pink.

Professor Pink is an award-winning futures anthropologist and documentary filmmaker.

She is a Laureate Professor and Director of the Emerging Technologies Research Lab and Futures Hub at Monash University.

Prior to this, she was the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology's Distinguished Professor and Director of the Digital Ethnography Centre at RMIT University.

Well, this year the conference is gonna be September 8th through the 10th.

September 8th we're actually doing a classified session at another location, and then Se- September 9th and 10th we're gonna be at the convention center, and we're going to be with the organization called the Society for Defense Financial Managers, SDFM, and we're gonna be, uh, having the Emerging Technology for Defense conference and exhibition alongside the Data Analytics and Decis- for Decision Support, uh, Conference with them.

So we have a lot going on.

We have, uh, quite a few organizations that are going to be partnering with us this year, so we're very excited.
