Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy

APFI, the oldest affinity group in the field, formerly called the Association of Black Foundation Executives.

We have Asian American Pacific Islanders in philanthropy, Native Americans in philanthropy, emerging practitioners in philanthropy.

the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy, the Philanthropic Initiative for Racial Equity, and there are others as well.

So I was curious how you or the endowment are involved with change philanthropy beyond the pledge or any of its member organizations.

And when we say strategically, we also mean equitably because we believe that more equitably moving resources are is a requirement for strategic funding, strategic funding strategies, field building, and what have you.

So the 10 organizations in change philanthropy are APIP, Asian Americans for Pacific Islanders, in philanthropy, APFI, a philanthropic partnership for Black communities, emerging practitioners in philanthropy, LGBTQ funders, Hispanics in philanthropy, the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy, Native Americans in philanthropy, the Neighborhood Funders Group, the Philanthropic Initiative for Racial Equity, and the Women's Funding Network.

Those are the 10 organizations that have been working together, as I said, for over a decade.

And in my role as the director of campaigns and programs, I was really hired to help the coalition get this level up initiative that we'll be talking about off the ground and to lead our joint programmatic work across those 10 organizations, including expanding our emergent work with trustees of color.

to share the goals of the campaign, to understand the specific regional needs of how they're working towards these goals in their regions.

As I mentioned, we're looking to do some case studies and have some grant-making institutions in mind that are always eager to see institutions raise their hand and say that they have a story that they want us to help them share.

And then we're continuing our really important work with both our trustees of color who are working on advancing these goals inside their institutions and in the sector more broadly, emerging practitioners in philanthropy.

One of our change partner organizations is doing similar important work in their programming coming up in the fall to create learning opportunities to advance these goals for practitioners at all levels.
