Ellis County

At approximately 4 p.m., emergency dispatchers received a call that would shatter this quiet community forever.

According to the Ellis County Sheriff's Office, a Child Protective Services caseworker had made what should have been a routine visit to a home on Harris Street.

But what she discovered would haunt her and the responding officers for the rest of their lives.

According to reporting by CBS Texas, the CPS worker had come to remove five children from the home where they were staying with a relative.

But something had gone terribly wrong.

Italy police arrived on the scene at 4.05 p.m., just five minutes after the 911 call.

What they found inside that modest home would become one of the most horrific crime scenes in Ellis County history.

NBC5 Dallas-Fort Worth reported that officers discovered all five children had been stabbed.

District 2, it's in East Texas.

It includes the northeast part of Dallas County, which is Garland, Rowlett, a little bit of Mesquite, Sunnyvale, Seagoville, and then all of the counties of Rockwall, Kaufman, Van Zandt, Navarro, and the eastern half of Ellis County.

Ah, Logan.

Oh, that's not Logan.

didn't, voter turnout is up, but we have no way of knowing whether it's Republican or Democrat at this point.

But in terms of other enthusiasm, I can't speak to which I feel is higher, but there are places when it was time for voter registration, like in Ellis County, who saw 30,000 new registered voters, which is a historically red county, but has moved further to the left in recent election cycles.

So there's evidence everywhere that you could argue for both.

Republicans are more excited or Democrats are, but we'll just have to see what happens on election day.

Keep an eye on Ellis County and Kauffman County.

They're going to move the needle to the left this this session.

I don't I don't think that either we're going to flip, but I think they're going to move it pretty far to the left.

Like, use the end of a pencil.

In Ellis County, they use two tips.

In some counties, they use the end of a pencil, right? They pass out pencils.

So we're not seeing as much of that in Dallas County because we have the styluses.

Everybody needs help, but we can't flip this state from the top down.

Bell County, 80%.

Ellis County, 81%.

McAllen County, 79%.

Hockley County, that's a rural county, 66%.

Yeah, a lot to unpack here in the state of Texas.

I will tell you, I have spent every day of the last week out at the polls here in Ellis County, Texas.

And look, there are some trends that are concerning.

And I'm not going to sugarcoat this for you, Steve.

It's tightening.

I think we're now within about two points statewide.

But I'll tell you, even right here in Ellis County, in a very conservative Republican county, just from two years ago, The percentage of voters who have only ever voted in Democrat primaries has doubled just in the last two years.

So there are trends that are absolutely concerning, okay? And let me tell you this too, it's close, okay? And so what do you do with that? Well, I think actually that's probably the biggest story is the fact that we are Texas.

Texas early voting happening, voter registration up.

And you were saying that these other counties, this Coffman County, Ellis County, Johnson County, Hunt County, around the Dallas area, Austin.

It's not the county that Austin is in, which is Travis, but it's the surrounding.

Backstrop, Hayes, Caldwell, and then Houston.
