You're going a little bit country?

Oh, yes.

More than a little bit, I would say.

But it depends what you call country because I know there are some purists out there and I totally get it.

You know, they're like, she's not country.

And you're jumping on the bandwagon.

Of course, it's having a huge moment right now, a huge, huge cultural moment, which I know and I'm aware of, but I...

Tell us all about this new music.

So what did The Push mean to you, um, as a teenager?

I- it can't be overstated.

It really was everything.

It was our first and only way really to experience, like, connection to the music industry, or to have some early, um, opportunities and pathways.

So The Push are just...

Like, I speak about them so emphatically because they walk the walk.

They don't just talk the talk, "Oh, yeah, we give the kids opportunities." They really do.

It must be a wonderful venue for you to play.

... or was it part of it?

We, they are the first organization that sort of, like, created those pathways for us, so we, as in Jess and I, are so passionate about The Push as an organization.

They, um...

I think we had workshops that we had been to.

Our lovely parents had driven us down and sort of gotten us involved from a young age, and always helped us along with our sort of music dreams.

But it wasn't until Pushover 1996-

Mm.

It is the thing for me.

And you were part of that with Tommy Emanuel.

Oh my God, I know, it's crazy.

It's one of the strangest and best and most flattering collaborations I've done.

Because, you know, Tommy Manuel is a super freak, genius level, God level guitarist and a massive star.

And he's massive, massive, massive in the States and especially in Nashville, where I go in the country music scene or the Americana music scene, he is like a god.

and bachelor girl are like again they're friends and contemporaries of mine from back in the day we all came up they came up a little bit before us killing honey were hot on their heels maybe the next year or two after they released their big album we released ours so we became friends and we hung out and we got to know each other and then and then tanya asked me to sort of you know chime in and do help do a rendition of one of their songs for their reboot redux album and of course i said yes but i didn't realize tommy emmanuel was going to be part of it as well this is crazy it turned into like i don't know an amazing behemoth of a of a mixed bag of a thing but it's really cool

What's your favourite song you've ever written?

Oh, gosh, that is hard.

Like-

These are our, these are our buddies.

These are our contemporaries.

Like, we used to hang out with Frenzal Rhomb a lot.

[laughs] We used to...

Magic Dirt were huge inspirations to me.

We didn't get to play with them as much.

So if you wanna get into the biz, whether it's audio or bands, uh, they've done a lot for over 40 years.
