It is highly underdiagnosed because if, if you are an individual with binge eating disorder and you go to your healthcare provider and you say, "You know, I've been trying this diet, but then I get really hungry and then I eat more than I meant to, and I feel really sick, and it's really embarrassing and I don't know, really know what to do about it," very, very unfortunately your healthcare provider might just say, "Well, you just need to try harder at your diet.
