Okay, my go-along is Well-Schooled in Murder by Elizabeth George.

As we mentioned, British boarding schools often have a strict, unwritten code of conduct that governs the student's behavior.

It is passed down through oral tradition and woe to the person who breaks it.

When 13-year-old Matthew goes missing, none of his fellow students are willing to give the detectives anything to go on.

600 teenagers, and no one can tell them a thing.

Like Tana French's books, Elizabeth George's crime novels are about character as much as plot.

In this one, Inspector Lindley, who is a lord by birth and a cop by choice, is blinded to clues because of his posh upbringing.

OK, and I would resist that, whatever you are.

You know, if you're like Elizabeth George and you write out every scene on a card, then do that.

And if you're like E.L. Doctorow, who said, you know, writing a novel is like driving at night with your headlights on.

You can only see as far as your headlights, but you will make the journey.

Certainly I'm learning every time I write a story.

When you look at the greats, you know, P.D. James, Elizabeth George, Agatha Christie.

Yeah.

And you say, oh, look at the way she gave that away plain as day.
