I'm Danny Bessner, here as always with my friend and comrade, Derek Davison, and I am very excited to welcome to the podcast today my friend, Hugo Drachon.

Hugo is an associate professor in political theory at the University of Nottingham, and he's also the author of Elite's and democracy.

A new book close to my heart because it gets at one of the most important things I'm interested in, which is the role of elites in democracy.

So, Hugo, thank you so much, first of all, for joining us today.

It's a great privilege to be here and I'm looking forward to the discussion.

So let's dive right in and maybe we could frame the discussion.

Elites and democracy.

So this is, of course, a major tension in democratic theory going back to the beginning of democratic theory, which is that how do you govern a complex society that is supposed to be at least theoretically, at least in parts, ruled by the will of the demos, the public when obviously you can't subject every decision to democratic votes.

So other Killington episodes would be episode 89.

I don't know why I didn't separate that and make those two different episodes.

If we look at the Eliteserien, I feel like it's been a long time since we've spoken about Eliteserien just because of the World Cup and also Svenskeren in a way, just because of the World Cup and everything that's gone on.

It almost feels like it's become a bit of an afterthought in recent months because obviously we have that summer break, isn't it? And then the World Cup is such a huge event.

So for those who missed it, it's like, it's like, it's like there's sort of a What's it called? It's like series, isn't it? It's like Netflix series where it's like previously on Elita Serian.
