Eliphas Levi

That's the idea.

So the whole Baphomet idol, I mean, a lot of people say it's traced to Eliphas Levi.

And then you read a lot of like, or watch a lot of videos about the subject.

um they always turn to eliphas levi right but um but you know he actually got that information from another guy uh his name is uh joseph von hammer perks all and he was an orientalist in austria so so an orientalist is someone who uh specialized in a specific form of uh languages so the orient right in the middle east so he was very much involved in that sort of thing of research but you know Once you've researched that, you know, you go into other rabbit holes, right? Including like very occult ones.

But anyway, he wrote this book called Mysterium Baphometis Revelatum, which is like the source text for, I would say, the Baphomet.

Of course, you know, Tracy Twyme did talk about that quite a bit in her work as well.

I guess Eliphas Levi was the one to draw this Baphomet.

Um, it, it goes back pretty far and it seems like it's some kind of controlling entity over dominions of the Earth.

Um, in Freemasonry, what is Baphomet considered? I mean, it's obviously a goat-man, he-she type thing.

Right.

But the Baphomet, that entire symbol came from Eliphas Levi.

It's not even that old.

It's like relatively new.

Eliphas Levy, nom de plume of Frenchman Alphonse Louis Constant, died in 1875 but left behind a number of influential magical books, including Dogma and Ritual de la Haute Magie, or Dogma and Ritual of High Magic, which includes the well-known drawing of Baphomet seen here.

Eventually, Alistair Crowley would translate one of Eliphas Levy's books to English, titled The Key of the Mysteries.

William Wynne Westcott, a founding member of the Golden Dawn, wrote a book titled Numbers, their occult power and mystic virtue, being a resume of the views of the Kabbalists, Pythagoreans, adepts of India, Chaldean magic, and medieval magicians.

and nothing about Satan.

Now, you might be thinking, if the inverted star has historically represented good, when did it start to represent evil for some people? Most sources I've seen agree that a Frenchman named Eliphas Levi was the first person to connect the inverted star to Eliphas in the 1850s, after the Nauvoo Temple had already been completed.

Levi was the first person to describe what is known today as the Sigil of Baphomet, which became the preeminent symbol of the Church of Satan in 1966.

Baphomet itself is an androgynous goat-headed deity configured by guys who, like Eliphas Levi, that Crowley was very inspired by.

On the right-hand side is a certain Washington Monument, which also features a Vesica Pisces.

When we look at the Baphomet, the Baphomet is a very significant symbol to the occult.

And when you study that symbol made by Eliphas Levi, he designed it connected to the Knights Templar.

They'll deny it, but it's pretty obvious when you look into it.

When you look at the Baphomet, many of you are probably familiar with that goat head, half man, half woman with two fingers up and two fingers down.
