Eliashib

And again, most of us skip this chapter, just hard to pronounce names, but let me just mention a few of them.

First, you have Eliashib, the high priest.

We read that he and his fellow priests went to rebuild the sheep gate.

You don't normally expect a high priest to be rolling up his sleeves and getting involved in dusty, heavy, dirty work of rebuilding walls.

Bak- Bakkukhai and Uni their brethren stood across from them in their duties." Now we're in verse 10 here.

"Jeshua begat Joiakim, Joiakim begat Eliashib, and Eliashib begat Jo- Joiada.

Joiada begat Jonathan, and Jonathan begat Judea." Judiah.

Verse 12, "Now in the days of Joiakim the priests, the heads of the fathers' houses were Seraiah, Mariah, and Jeremiah, Hananiah, and of Ezra, Ma- Meshullam, and Amariah, and Johanan of Melemthiu, Jonathan of Shebaniah, Joseph of Harim, Adna of Meroth, Helkai of Iddo, Zechariah of Ginnethon, uh, Meshullam of Abijah, uh, Zicri, the son of Minjamin of Maadiah, Pit- uh, Piltai of Bilgah, Shammua and Shammua, J- uh, Jeho- Nathan of Joiarib, Mattenai of Jedaiah, Uzzi of Sallai, Kallai of Amok, Abir of Hilkiah, Hashabiah and of, and of J- Jedaiah, Nethanel.

Before this, Eliashib the priest had been put in charge of the storerooms of the house of our God, and he was closely associated with Tobiah, and he had provided him with a large room formerly used to store grain offerings and incense and temple articles, and also the tithes of grain, new wine, and olive oil prescribed for the Levites, musicians, and gatekeepers, as well as the contributions for the priests.

But while all this was going on, I was not in Jerusalem, for in the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon, I had returned to the king." Now remember, he asked, "Can I go and rebuild the walls?" And the king asked, "How long will it take?" Now he never-- we never actually see a time, but it says that he set a time, so that time is now up, and he had to go back, and he had to be a cupbearer to the king.

So he says, uh, says, "In the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes king of Babel-- uh, king of Babylon, I had returned to the king.

Sometime later, I had asked his permission, and I came back to Jerusalem." So it says, "Here I learned about the evil things that Eliashib had done in providing Tobiah a room in the courts of the house of God." I was greatly displeased and threw all Tobias' household goods out of the room, and I gave orders to purify the rooms, and then I had put back into them the equipment of the house of God with the grain offerings and the incense.

Now, this is nothing.

This, this is, this is kind of what I'm talking about.

So, uh, so it says, uh, "Must m- must we now hear, must we hear now that you are two, that you two are dying all this terrible wickedness or doing..." Man, hold on.

Nearia had three sons, Elioenai, Hizkiah, and Azrikam.

Elioenai had seven sons, Hodavia, Eliashib, Pelaiah, Akub, Johanan, Deliah, and Ananai.

Let's return to Proverbs 14.
