So I think as a really good place to start, can you tell us what the blood-brain barrier is and what it normally does in maintaining CNS health?

Elga de VriesGUEST
So the blood-brain barrier, it's actually a name for a structure that we have in our brains.

Elga de VriesGUEST
So as the name already implies, it forms a barrier between the blood and the brain.

Elga de VriesGUEST
And in essence, it's based in the capillaries, the blood capillaries of the brain.

Elga de VriesGUEST
So in essence, first barrier are the brain endothelial cells, and they are sealed together with protein networks we call tie junctions.

How important has understanding the blood-brain barrier been in terms of helping us with that, with existing treatments that I guess may potentially work through stopping immune cell infiltration through this barrier? But then I guess there's a different point to it, also understanding it in terms of how we can ensure that these treatments actually get to where they need to go.
