Elf Power

I don't know how many people are familiar with the Elephant 6 Collective that really made an important impact on music during the 1990s.

Out of Athens, Georgia, they had bands like the Apples in Stereo, Elf Power, The Minders, Neutral Milk Hotel of Montreal, and this band, the Olivia Tremor Control.

During the 90s, they made a couple of really seminal, important alternative rock albums.

And they broke up, and then they got back together, and they were starting to make a third record.

Okay.

Jason, you grew up in Atlanta and you played in a band with Brian Poole of Elf Power and of Montreal.

He leaves the band.

Your new bass player, Kay, joins.

You co-own your own shop called Wax Galaxy.

And you have your own label, HHBTM, which signs Jason's band, Casper and the Cookies.

Meanwhile, in an alternate timeline in a parallel universe, Derek, you're playing in Of Montreal, Destroyer, Elf Power, with Vic Chestnut, and the Olivia Trimmer Control.

So, how the hell did we do this? Derek, when did you start playing with Olivia Trimmer Control?

We've done Olivia Tremor Control, The Apples in Stereo, Neutral Milk Hotel.

They were part of that Elephant 6, kind of an offshoot of that from Athens, Georgia.

Other members of Elephant 6, of course, Neutral Milk Hotel, Elf Power, Apples and Stereo, to name a few.

But Bill Doss, one of the founding members of the Olivia Tremor Control, passed away last year.

a little over a decade ago, but they took some of the songs they had been working on for a third album and finally finished them.

Time-wise, it feels like it was later.

But mainly just because of the context of the time, because this is a minor point, but Eric and I... were in Elf Power at the time and we were doing a bunch of touring with Vic and Elf Power and making records with Elf Power and we also made the last Instruments record around that same time and I just have this memory of it being after Vic passed away that is when we started that and that and he passed away in Christmas 2009 so

I don't
