AlexHOST

want to read them.
Toni Perkins-SouthamGUEST
41:40
I was looking at that for the London airport because I was kind of have you guys know, I was like worried about like the visa thingy or the ETSA or whatever it's called.
Toni Perkins-SouthamGUEST
41:49
So I was reading about like, you know, how to sleep at the London airport, which by the way, there's not a lot of good advice out there.
Toni Perkins-SouthamGUEST
41:54
They're really weird and strict about sleeping at the London airport.
John RichardsonHOST
6:49
Absolutely.
John RichardsonHOST
6:50
And, you know, it's funny because what brought us together today specifically was this conversation going on about, you know, is it really true that if somebody renounces, they're going to have trouble getting an ESTA?
Diane GelonGUEST
7:05
Well, I mean, you and I have taken a look at this and it certainly is appearing on a couple of people's websites that that is the information that they have figured out that through whatever, through conversations with, you know, immigration authorities that applying for an ESTA would When you are a former American citizen, somebody who has relinquished their citizenship may not be able to easily get an ESTA, which, as you know, is the advanced document that you need to obtain in order to enter the United States as a visitor.
Diane GelonGUEST
7:49
So it's a visa waiver.
John RichardsonHOST
7:51
Without actually going to the trouble of getting a visa.
John RichardsonHOST
8:05
I mean, it was, you know, but I mean, we found a couple of other articles.
John RichardsonHOST
8:08
There was a Withers thing, for example, came down yesterday.
John RichardsonHOST
8:13
And I didn't read that as categorically saying that, you know, the fact of renunciation means you can't get an ESTA.
Shana KhaderGUEST
6:15
It's the second ban there that applies to our case based on the time period.
Shana KhaderGUEST
6:20
And so that is requiring either an I-94W form that's not in the record, or an ESTA form that's not in the record.
Shana KhaderGUEST
6:32
The page prior to that is JA16, the Visa Waiver Removal Checklist.
Shana KhaderGUEST
6:37
So the government seems to have checked off there that the I-94W form is in the record.
Shana KhaderGUEST
6:46
Furthermore, the notice of intent to remove and the actual removal order alleged that Thiago himself executed the waiver.
Shana KhaderGUEST
6:55
So the notice of intent, which is on page three of the administrative record, states you signed and agreed to the conditions on the I-94W.
Shana KhaderGUEST
7:05
The removal order similarly states that it was established by clear and convincing evidence and reads in relevant part, you executed the I-94W non-immigrant visa waiver or the ESTA form.
Shana KhaderGUEST
7:19
So it appears that the government has contended throughout in these very, very abbreviated proceedings before the administrative agency.
John RichardsonHOST
10:58
So what kind of friction or interaction is that with the U.S. government?
Parviz MalakoutiGUEST
11:03
So filling out an online form before you want to travel to the United States, right, the ESTA application, or if you've filled it out previously and, you know, you still have validity left off on that, and then coming to the United States, presenting yourself at a border.
Parviz MalakoutiGUEST
11:18
And as we said before, of course, a person can be denied access at a border as well too, right? But I would say, John, you know, the initial ESTA eligibility slash approval is the bigger threat, right? You know, more people are going to be denied ESTA than approved ESTA and then run into trouble when they actually present themselves at the
John RichardsonHOST
11:41
border.
John RichardsonHOST
11:41
In other words, you know, what the ESTA thing really does, the issue of the essence is rebuts the presumption of immigrant intent in general, right?
Parviz MalakoutiGUEST
11:49
What do you mean by that?
John RichardsonHOST
11:51
Well, what I mean is that, you know, you've already gone through the ESTA process.
John RichardsonHOST
11:56
OK, you've already effectively been cleared by the United States to go to the United States.
Tom SykesHOST
21:50
And I would like to say a big thanks to FJQQ3KS, who sent me 20 pounds for a slice of pizza on my New York City break, because I'm going to New York on Monday.
Tom SykesHOST
22:04
and I'm not allowed to work when I'm in New York, because on the ESTA visa, which I travel to America on, you're not allowed to work.
Tom SykesHOST
22:10
I'm allowed to appear on other people's shows.
Tom SykesHOST
22:13
I'm allowed to promote my shows.

Ireland has gaps of its own.
speaker_0NARRATOR
12:21
It brings no Mercosur settlement, no Gulf access, no APEC business travel card and no visa-free entry to Russia or China.
speaker_0NARRATOR
12:30
Chile covers the Mercosur and Asia-Pacific gaps and adds ESTA entry to the United States.

In return, Ireland supplies the European Union and the United Kingdom.
Ani O'BrienGUEST

happened to me when I got my American one.
David HarveyGUEST
37:00
Yeah, you didn't go to ETSA, so yeah, all right.
David HarveyGUEST
37:04
I
Ani O'BrienGUEST
37:04
did, but then I got a pop-up and I just got conned.
Dan StephensHOST
30:46
Hopefully I can then get extremely good at stand-up and go to America and try and crack it over there.
Dan StephensHOST
30:54
But my God, it's one big blow that I received, like that happened to me, is that in 2025 they changed the question on the ESTA application, which is the Visa Waiver Program in Ireland.
Dan StephensHOST
31:09
They changed the question... about criminal history on that too it used to be have you ever been uh arrested for an incident where someone was hurt or there was property damage the question was something like that and now since 2025 it's been changed to have you ever been arrested for any reason and once you tick yes on that you're gone no more visa waiver for you so that system is gone for me now because of that silly decision i made uh whereas before i would have been able to tick no i haven't been arrested for those because nobody got hurt or or no property got damaged but yeah just an update for you guys that that whole process is coming to an end and uh Yeah, I just want to get really good at stand-up now because you have to have extraordinary ability to get a visa to do stand-up in the US.
Dan StephensHOST
32:07
So I want to work towards that and get back there.
Gary BembridgeHOST
4:59
The reason being that hordes of passengers had not got the recently introduced UK ETA electronic travel authorisation required to enter the country and so were being refused boarding.
Gary BembridgeHOST
5:11
I saw a similar issue firsthand when I checked in for a Queen Mary II transatlantic last month, where many people from the UK and other European countries were being asked to prove that they had applied for and got the United States ESTA that's required to enter.
Gary BembridgeHOST
5:27
Now, many people hadn't got it and were scrambling to see if they could get it online before the ship boarded.
Gary BembridgeHOST
5:33
People were angry as they argued that Cunard hadn't made it clear nor told them they required it.
Chris HeywoodGUEST
14:52
We are not taxpayer funded.
Chris HeywoodGUEST
14:54
We're not taxpayer funded, but we are funded by a portion of the ESTA fees that international visitors from visa waiver countries pay to come to the U.S. And we get a portion of those fees.
Chris HeywoodGUEST
15:06
We do not unlock those fees, though, until we raise private dollars.
Chris HeywoodGUEST
15:10
So we have to raise a lot of private money.
Chris HeywoodGUEST
15:12
And then through that, we're able to unlock matching funds.
Chris HeywoodGUEST
15:15
from the ESTA fees.
Chris HeywoodGUEST
15:17
What ended up happening is our budget was cut by 80% and we're trying to get some of those monies back.
Chris HeywoodGUEST
15:23
Thankfully, we had a healthy reserve from the post pandemic time and we got a restoration fund and we were able to have some dollars put aside for a rainy day.
