Electronic gear-shifting system

If people are thinking about doing it, I would recommend doing it for sure.

I wouldn't do it on any, um, Di2 stuff.

That was the only problem you had, wasn't it, with your Di2?

Yeah.

It kept going into crash mode after day three, and it just got progressively worse.

And it wouldn't reset, even though I was doing everything you have to do to-

But it is a thing.

It also played into, this is my story that I love, when Lael won Transamerica, I think it's called, and she had to hide and charge her Di2 battery so that the guy that was, actually, I'll tell the story a little more clearly.

She was They were one and two.

It was her and a guy.

And she said, absolutely effing not.

And then dropped him.

And then hid somewhere in a restaurant so she could charge her Di2.

And he wouldn't know that she was charging.

There's a hidden button.

So for those of you that had like the rubber covers that are on Shimano's latest version of Di2, if you're kind of at the peak of those rubber covers, there's like a little hidden button tactile.

It clicks underneath that rubber hood.

I can't tell if it's still there in the new shifters or if they've moved it to kind of like a discreet tactile button that sort of sits just inside maybe where the hydraulic hinge would be.

That choice is there.

But I think Shimano has really kind of been about refinement.

And even for the radical changes, let's say 10-speed Di2 to 11-speed Di2, while many of the components are not backwards compatible, you can't really interchange them too much.

There have been some caveats over the years that allow that.

... uh, to update the firmware on your, uh, on your Di2 for the last, like, nine months, they've ac- they've sneakily added a 13 speed option as you're, as you're updating the Di2.

So, that part, definitely not a secret.

The wires, I think, is probably a surprise to many.

Mm.

And I can't help but feel that Shimano will come out with this new groupset, and it'll perfectly match where SRAM is at today, and then SRAM, six months later, will just be like, "Oops," and just come out with its next release, which will potentially just take even more market share away.

Which kind of echoes what they've been doing on the gravel side as well, because the, the Di2, um, for, for, uh, GRX was late.

Um, the, the gear ratios are kind of odd and a little bit old.

I'm not going to name any names, but I was riding with a few sponsored athletes that had different sponsored equipment.

And one of the athletes, he did not charge his Di2.

So in the middle of the ride, he had to go back to charge his gears because he didn't have any gears.
