The rest were carefully layered adult voices, blended with a few children to create the illusion of youthful harmony.

Eleanor Parker, who played the poised and perfectly coiffed Baroness Schrader, had three Oscar nominations under her belt and gave the other woman nuance and dignity.

No cartoon villainy here.

Peggy Wood, cast as the mother abbess, was a veteran stage actress who hadn't sung publicly in years.

I would rather have Eleanor Parker's wardrobe after she becomes famous in that movie.

Then Esther Williams was, said no, so she was put on suspension, so then they went to Eleanor Parker.

and you know, and there's a couple of things in it that are a little like Eleanor Parker plays his girlfriend.

She's a little bit over the top with her acting.
