El Pollo Loco

Also here in Sherman Oaks, we have the Whole Foods next to the El Pollo Loco, and there's been lots of celebrity sightings.

Let's see.

At Whole Foods, Juliette Lewis was in line next to me, and I was like, man, this is a strange town to work in.

Nah, you don't.

We don't want El Pollo Loco.

This week, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

All right.

Now, you know, imagine...

I go back to that Pollo Loco and I offer this boy a job.

I'm just going to give him a book with all of my setups and say, just do that.

And of course, they're all marked and the setup itself is very easy to keep organized.

[upbeat music] Now, around this time in 1986, another Mexican restaurant was spreading its wings in Torrance, and it had a unique variety of salsa that was hard to find anywhere else.

The name of this new hotspot was called El Pollo Loco, and their salsa was what we'd call pico de gallo: a blend of tomatoes, onion, cilantro, lemon, and jalapenos.

Man, at the time, there was nothing like El Pollo Loco anywhere in town.

Its flame-cooked chicken was the perfect substrate to deliver their one-of-a-kind salsa.

The first time I took a bite, I was smitten.

And just like Romero's, I thought the best way to my true love was to be in close proximity to her, so I marched down to El Pollo Loco, applied, and once they saw Romero's on my application, it was a done deal.

They hired me on the spot.

[upbeat music] Now, like most restaurants, El Pollo Loco had a uniform, but it wasn't that black polo shirt, black pants, and black baseball cap of today.

Folks, you know Glenn Kaufman, he's the managing partner at DQ Group, uh, CEO of KH Camera.

He's been i- involved in, you know, uh, director of El Pollo Loco, uh, you know, corporate attorney background, uh, on the board, uh, formerly on the board, Red Robin, uh, you know, board with Anthony, Inc., and, and now, you know, KH Camera, CEO, chair of the board.

Just some phenomenal, phenomenal organizations.
