Now, the tragedy began in March 1990 at a high school in Madrid.

Estefania Gutierrez Lazaro, an 18-year-old girl with an interest in the occult, gathered with two of her friends in the school's basement to conduct a seance using an improvised Ouija board.

The girls were attempting to contact the spirit of a friend's boyfriend who had recently passed away in a motorcycle accident.

The ritual was abruptly interrupted by a teacher who caught the girls, scolded them, and physically tore the Ouija board in half, breaking the glass cup they were using as a planchette.

However, Inspector Jose Pedro Negri has stood by his report for decades.

He maintains that he and his men were highly trained observers, not easily frightened or fooled, and that what they saw that night defied the laws of physics.

So, the tragic passing of Estefania Gutierrez Lazaro and the subsequent haunting of her family remains Spain's most famous paranormal mystery.
