Ejection seat

That is not a given.

Ejection seat systems are designed to be reliable, but they operate under extreme conditions and there are cases in aviation history where a seat fails to fire, fires but does not clear the aircraft, or functions perfectly and the pilot sustains injuries incompatible with survival.

None of that happened here.

What we do not know is why the pilot had to leave the airplane.

It is the result of taking every accident seriously, investigating it thoroughly, and changing the system based on what each investigation teaches.

This pilot survived, that is part of the same story.

The ejection seat in an Air Force F-16 is the ACE's II, Advanced Concept Ejection Seat Second Generation, manufactured by Collins Aerospace and used across multiple Air Force platforms including the F-15 Eagle, the A-10 Thunderbolt, the B-1 Lancer, the B-2 Spirit, the F-22 Raptor, and others.

The ACEs-2 is zero-zero capable, zero altitude, zero airspeed.

But the people, well, let me back up a step.

The ejection seats, everybody knows what an ejection seat is, right? Everybody has seen videos and movies and stuff like that.

I guess two of the big ejection seat makers are, one company is called Martin Baker, is one company.

And it seems like they're the big one.

And then there's another one called Collins Aerospace, who also make ejection seats.

So sticking with Martin Baker, whenever there is whenever there is an ejection that takes place.

Coming out of a fighter jet or like they showed the picture of the guys who ejected from the stealth bomber, like seeing a stealth bomber on the ground, like seeing a stealth bomber is crazy anyway.

Dornier's solution was almost shockingly modern for 1944.

The Do 335 was fitted with an ejection seat, not the crude kind that simply fires you upward.

Before the seat ignited, a pyrotechnic charge would blast away the rear propeller and blow off the upper tail fin, clearing the space above the cockpit.

Only then would the seat fire, shooting the pilot straight up through the cleared path.
