Uh, some of my, like, great teachers on the show have been Dr. Einat Wilf.

I learned a lot from our conversation.

As Jews prepare for Yom Kippur, that definition should trouble us, not because of what we've done to others, but because of what we haven't done for ourselves.

I want to suggest an unusual addition to this year's Yom Kippur reading list, Israeli politician Einat Wilf's book, Teaching Zionism, Revelations from a Skeptical Classroom.

read alongside the Maksor, a special prayer book used during the high holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

Wilf, a former Israeli parliament member and one of the sharper public intellectuals writing on Zionism today, is now running third on the joint list of the Reservists and the New Economic Party ahead of Israel's October elections, a fitting move for someone whose book argues that Zionist literacy is itself a form of national service.

You talk about three pillars of your platform.

This week, there were more surprising unions.

Former Minister of Communications Yoaz Hendel, the head of a party called HaMiluimnikim, the Reservists, who until this week was running in a centrist party called the Zionist Home on a platform calling for forming a left-right national unity government and drafting Haredim, ultra-Orthodox, joined together with former Labor MK Einat Wilf and neoliberal former accountant general of the Ministry of Finance and present-day economics professor Yaron Zelekha.

What is strange about this throuple is that each of the three party heads are deeply ideological, but it is hard to discern just where their ideologies overlap, save for the fact that each of the three is convinced that until ultra-Orthodox men serve in the IDF, it will be impossible for the country to solve all the other problems it faces, meaning winning wars, fixing the economy, restoring the country's standing in the world, and so on.

Another odd coupling that happened just before the final irrevocable lists were submitted this week is this.

theory.I think generally you had lots of these small parties that didn't have a shot, and so they're hoping that by joining with other small parties that didn't have a shot, they collectively can get enough seats for the heads of those parties to get into the Knesset.

Like, I think it's just, it just boils down to that purely.

Like, what does Einat, you know, Einat Wilf and, and Yoaz Hendel have to do with each other in any way, shape, or form on many, many issues? Um, you know, Ra'am is, is a very s- diff- you know, that's a much more ideological decision.

But the rest is just sort of, um, I don't know, opportunism.

As he mentioned, Israel is currently in the middle of an election campaign.

Einat Wilf is one of those running for a seat in the Israeli parliament, the Knesset having previously served there for the Labour and the Independence parties.

She founded her own Oz party last year and is running on that ticket now.

So, did she agree with the foreign minister's assessment that this is an attempt by a foreign government or governments to exert influence on an election campaign?

What do you think then might happen in the short term in what you have called by its biblical name Judea and Samaria and the rest of the world calls Occupied West Bank? Is this going to lead to changes in the way Israel approaches it?

Yes, I think this will actually increase support for the idea that Israel should take steps to apply its civic law in at least part of Judea and Samaria, at least have some clarity of the area that it controls, because the threat that was used to kind of say, oh, you know, European governments would do this, now it's going to be implemented anyway, so might as well pursue Israel's interests and make it clear which parts go under Israeli civic law and which parts, this is in my opinion, we should finally behave like the Americans in Japan, like the allies in Nazi Germany, that will finally help de-radicalize the population and end their moronic war against Jewish self-determination, because that's the ideology we're dealing with.

That was the Israeli politician Einat Wilf.

Well, earlier, the Palestinian ambassador to the UK, Hossam Zomlot, came into the studio.

The Haredi Public Party announced it will include Dr. Nechumi Yaffe, a researcher in political psychology, marking the first time a woman runs for the Knesset with a Haredi party.

The Reservists' Economic Party, led by Jo Oz Hendel and Yaron Zelika, has also unveiled its list, including former MK Einat Wilf.

Otsma Yehudit, led by Itamar Ben-Givia, has submitted its slate, featuring Yishai Flesher, the international spokesman for the Hebron community, in the 12th spot.

The veteran Pirate Party has listed behavioural economist Dan Ariely in the third position.

And she flipped around October 7th, even a little before then.

And she said that she was a, Yeah, Einat Wilf.

Yes.

This is her,

Einat Wilf.

She's amazing.

And she was very honest.

So I see it as a spiritual war.

And Einat Wilf, who I was talking with, she sees it as a battle of mythos because she's an atheist.

But this is the biggest picture, the lens that is the most accurate one.

So I want to say a couple of things.

So we have a piece, Lorene, I, I just love this piece.

There is a, a Israeli diplomat, Einat Wilf, who was on a podcast from Israel, Josh Sazeps, and she said, "The Palestinians don't deserve our sympathy.

They deserve the truth." It just blew me away, and what she says is so true.
