NCCS is not tied directly to a parish, like many other Catholic schools are.

NCCS is the only Catholic elementary school serving students in Pre-K through Grade 8 in Chautauqua County.

New York City is imposing what it calls the broadest school AI moratorium in the United States.

For the coming school year, nearly 600,000 students from preschool through grade 8 will not be allowed to use student-facing generative AI in the classroom.

But the more interesting part of the policy may be what New York is doing instead.

The city isn't treating AI literacy as learning how to write better prompts.

Well,

I want her to talk about that because then I have I have something that I want to ask you about eighth grade.

So, contradictions.

Well, and I think this will tie in because you said it's nice to be at a point in your life where you can actually, you can look back and actually articulate who you were at that time.

And so, yeah, Kelly, eighth grade.

I mean, like, take us there.

Well, no, I

And and one of my older friends from church, I remember telling her.

Oh, okay.

My sisters went away in grade 8 to boarding school, and then I turned...

Mum actually ended up moving to Toowoomba.

I mean, it wasn't that far away, and put my sisters through school, and then I went down and lived with her.

Less chains around you than being a boarding schooler.

I mean, everyone makes decisions in their life that are...

I think the way I remember it is I was allowed to have some say in that decision, and I just didn't go in grade 8.

There was a spot for me there.

And then I

had an E250 like you in grade 8.

But for me at the time, it did not really be, it wasn't a thing to have or die, right? It wasn't even a conversation that, mom, I want a phone.

It was just, oh, there's a phone lying around in the house, so have it.

[chuckles] Okay.

So then, um, on, in other news also, almost 500,000 Grade 1 and Grade 8 applications have been submitted for the next school year, which is 2027.

And, um, that is an enormous demand on the provinces, on this Gauteng Province's education system.

So last week we spoke about the maths lit, and now [chuckles] the Grade 1 and Grade 8 applications, uh, showing that there's quite an enormous demand for-

Talking today about combating the eighth grade melt.

My guess is most people who are listening and looking for information know what we're talking about.

But let's set our definition.

What do we mean when we talk about the eighth grade melt?

So in the spring at classical schools often, outside of eighth grade hallways, if you listen closely, you might hear this phrase.

Perhaps it's spoken to you by a colleague, by a parent.

You hear this phrase, everybody's leaving.
