And so for me, the first voice that I remember was John Facenda, uh, narrating for NFL Films-

these are some heavy hitters here that's your classic non-unwillingness to admit you're wrong but yeah saying well you may

be right is um The great Edwin Pope, my mentor at the Miami Herald, taught me that because that was, he said that was the perfect way to defuse an argument.

Because you're not admitting someone was right, but you're not arguing by saying, no, I'm right.

When you say you may be right, it's sort of like you're placating them more than admitting they're right.

Uh, I don't think anyone is special.

I, I think y- this would've happened to Edwin Pope.

I, I honestly think in my heart that somebody would've called him on the phone when he was in his late 70s and said, "I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but..." You know, I mean, nobody's special.

You know, I, I went through a, a minute where I thought to myself, "Geez, uh, I thought I was invincible in a way.

in that, with the way that you told the story." It's one of the reasons that I say that you were such a strong influence and mentor to, uh, me.

And then to be scared walking into the Miami Herald, to be an intern and be in a room with what, to me, were imaginary giants, like superheroes, uh, Bob Reuben and Gary Long and Edwin Pope, and to have you specifically welcome me into that and allow me to be a part of that world, uh, you are aware of the ways that you turned on the lights for me along the path, right?
