So, uh, two things I'll say about, [laughs] two things I'll say about that.

Uh, one, one of the very first people to work in the lab is, uh, named, uh, Debbie Milliken, and she was a good microbiolo- is a good microbiologist, and what she noticed was she got sectoring on plates, colonies on plates.

Always look at colonies on plates, okay? That's important.

And she noticed that there were ones that were, you know, splitting off and starting to, to form these blebs that were coming out, and she isolated them, and they were hypermodal mutants.

They were ones that instead of making four or five flagella made 50, and they did swim much more quickly.
