Edward Brooke

In Washington, two Republican senators said the United States should refuse to send one more American fighting man to Vietnam until the South Vietnamese government greatly expands its own war effort.

Senator Edward Brooke of Massachusetts and Clifford Case of New Jersey accused the Johnson administration of not demanding a greater effort from the South Vietnamese themselves.

Brooke said there is no question that the United States' commitment is a worthy one, but he said this is not our war.

Case added the administration bears responsibility for not getting a greater military commitment from the South Vietnamese themselves.
