It's clear that the forces that Saruman faces in each battle are just a fraction of the army that Rohan could field, but Saruman and Grima's machinations mean that Rohan is outnumbered at every turn, at least to start with.

We're told that at the first battle of the Fords of Ison, the Rohirrim had 11 mounted companies and one company of archers, which adds up to about 1,400 soldiers, plus some men from the Westfold and, arriving partway into the battle, some reinforcements from Edoras, numbering four more companies, so perhaps another 500 or so.

All told, 1,500 or so soldiers, then battle was joined and obviously some were lost, then 500 more arrived.

At the second battle of the Fords of Eisen, Saruman seemingly fielded the bulk of his forces, so at least 10,000, against Rohan's maximum 2,000.

interesting interesting because yeah they do humanize him and make him more through dimensional in um in the movie i think then comparatively though they also make them creepily rapey so i don't know i feel about that without not dealing with that completely but regardless it is a more complex portrait of a man which i do i do appreciate um well Back in Edoras, the people of Rohan celebrate their victory at Helm's Deep, but Pippin brings down the vibe when he decides to try and look at the Palantir again.

No, don't feel the draw of Peter Thiel, Pippin, no. Gandalf and Aragorn come to the rescue, but the damage is done.

Sauron believes Pippin the Hobbit has the ring and now knows Aragorn has emerged from the shadows.

And in the books also, a Nazgul flies to Isengard overhead during this scene as well, which only Legolas can see.

So there are some differences.

I will say it really bothers me that they took the ring to Askelia in this first movie, because it really steps, steps on the like plot for this scene in particular, because it's like, they literally saw the ring in Askelia and now people think it's an Edoras or like, I think in the, like what it was really supposed to represent was, Oh, uh saran was supposed to think that sorrow man was making pippin look in the palantir because he was the one who had the ring so saran thought that uh sorrow man had the ring right and that's why he um falls for the deception later and they stepped on it by changing it because they didn't want Sam and Frodo just to walk in the third movie.

They wanted to do other things.

Um, and of course Gandalf's in the wizard staffs are weapons that are used, uh, Yes,

I was just going to bring that up because like the argument is even addressed in the in the the two towers where, you know, they visit Edoras and they say, OK, you can visit the king, but you have to leave all your weapons on the threshold.

And this argument breaks out about whether Gandalf's staff constitutes a weapon.

You know, and there's some great there's some in the book, there's some great dialogue about that where like, what is it? Gandalf says, you know, like, if I may not lean on my stick as I go, I will sit out here until it pleases Théoden to hobble out himself to speak to me.
