Kim RenfroHOST
31:26
But, you know, it all started jiving in my mind pretty quickly, and I really liked just the general, like, artistic style of this a lot.
Kim RenfroHOST
31:36
And the whole opening with Hera and the eagles flying around in her, like... you know chucking them some meat and then coming back home and everyone's like being like you're off on your little adventures again and I was like that is exactly what I would do if I grew up uh in Edoras and so I was just
Jessie EarlHOST
31:53
giving him like a giant turkey leg too it's like huge
Kim RenfroHOST
31:57
yes And the instant shot put technique that she was putting on it.

Jessie EarlHOST
47:54
Isengard.
Jessie EarlHOST
47:58
Love it.
Jessie EarlHOST
47:59
Well, moving on, Hera's cousin and lady maid help her escape Wolf's camp and return to Edoras to warn King Helm of the coming threat.
Jessie EarlHOST
48:08
The king dismisses their concerns and walks right into a trap of a nighttime battle with the hill tribes and hired Mumenkul mercenaries, they never say it correctly, plus the betrayal of one of his own lords.
Alan SistoHOST
8:25
In week 127, we talked about Isengard from yard, the enclosure that wore down into modern yard.
Alan SistoHOST
8:31
Week 128, Edoras from Edor, an enclosure, and from Eador, a prince, the man who is the wall.
Alan SistoHOST
8:38
And now the most famous battlefield in Middle-earth named for its fence.
Alan SistoHOST
8:42
It goes a little bit further than that, too.
Sam GallagherHOST
16:52
I'll just sort of explain the changes and some of my thoughts.
Sam GallagherHOST
16:54
So this was the army of Edoras.
Sam GallagherHOST
16:57
This was an army I was... really keen to do.
Sam GallagherHOST
17:02
So we've got riders of Rohan do not count towards the armor's bow limit.
Sam GallagherHOST
18:51
However, gaining two fate and two will, pretty good.
Sam GallagherHOST
18:53
Maybe he had two will.
Sam GallagherHOST
18:54
Anyway, so in my army, initially, so this was titled Army of Edoras Nova? We have Helm, Hammerhand, King of Rohan on Armored Horse.
Sam GallagherHOST
19:09
His warband is nine Royal Guard, eight Royal Guard with Throwing Spears, and one Rohan Warrior with Banner.
speaker_4HOST
20:16
So he requests to be deposited at Adorus.
speaker_1HOST
20:19
Now, geographically, this seems counterintuitive to me, as Edoras is positioned even further away from the Shire than his drop-off point could have been.
speaker_1HOST
20:27
It seems like a mathematical error when you were fighting the clock.
speaker_1HOST
20:30
Why add distance to a frantic pursuit?
RobertHOST
5:25
It's clear that the forces that Saruman faces in each battle are just a fraction of the army that Rohan could field, but Saruman and Grima's machinations mean that Rohan is outnumbered at every turn, at least to start with.
RobertHOST
5:38
We're told that at the first battle of the Fords of Ison, the Rohirrim had 11 mounted companies and one company of archers, which adds up to about 1,400 soldiers, plus some men from the Westfold and, arriving partway into the battle, some reinforcements from Edoras, numbering four more companies, so perhaps another 500 or so.
RobertHOST
5:59
All told, 1,500 or so soldiers, then battle was joined and obviously some were lost, then 500 more arrived.
RobertHOST
6:06
At the second battle of the Fords of Eisen, Saruman seemingly fielded the bulk of his forces, so at least 10,000, against Rohan's maximum 2,000.
Kim RenfroHOST
41:48
with sarman
Jessie EarlHOST
41:49
interesting interesting because yeah they do humanize him and make him more through dimensional in um in the movie i think then comparatively though they also make them creepily rapey so i don't know i feel about that without not dealing with that completely but regardless it is a more complex portrait of a man which i do i do appreciate um well Back in Edoras, the people of Rohan celebrate their victory at Helm's Deep, but Pippin brings down the vibe when he decides to try and look at the Palantir again.
Jessie EarlHOST
42:18
No, don't feel the draw of Peter Thiel, Pippin, no. Gandalf and Aragorn come to the rescue, but the damage is done.
Jessie EarlHOST
42:26
Sauron believes Pippin the Hobbit has the ring and now knows Aragorn has emerged from the shadows.
Caitlin BurnsGUEST
46:55
And in the books also, a Nazgul flies to Isengard overhead during this scene as well, which only Legolas can see.
Caitlin BurnsGUEST
47:06
So there are some differences.
Caitlin BurnsGUEST
47:08
I will say it really bothers me that they took the ring to Askelia in this first movie, because it really steps, steps on the like plot for this scene in particular, because it's like, they literally saw the ring in Askelia and now people think it's an Edoras or like, I think in the, like what it was really supposed to represent was, Oh, uh saran was supposed to think that sorrow man was making pippin look in the palantir because he was the one who had the ring so saran thought that uh sorrow man had the ring right and that's why he um falls for the deception later and they stepped on it by changing it because they didn't want Sam and Frodo just to walk in the third movie.
Caitlin BurnsGUEST
47:59
They wanted to do other things.
Jeff HaeckerGUEST
48:10
Um, and of course Gandalf's in the wizard staffs are weapons that are used, uh, Yes,
Thomas SalernoHOST
48:17
I was just going to bring that up because like the argument is even addressed in the in the the two towers where, you know, they visit Edoras and they say, OK, you can visit the king, but you have to leave all your weapons on the threshold.
Thomas SalernoHOST
48:33
And this argument breaks out about whether Gandalf's staff constitutes a weapon.
Thomas SalernoHOST
48:40
You know, and there's some great there's some in the book, there's some great dialogue about that where like, what is it? Gandalf says, you know, like, if I may not lean on my stick as I go, I will sit out here until it pleases Théoden to hobble out himself to speak to me.
Ben WarnerHOST
20:08
There's a Lorian Revealed, 3BB for a sorcery, draw three cards, Island Cycling, one.
Ben WarnerHOST
20:12
There's Banish from Edoras, four and a white for sorcery, exile target creature, cost two less to cast if it targets a tapped creature.
Ben WarnerHOST
20:19
There's the blue-white uncommon Prince Imrahil Affair that poops out one ones when you draw your second card.
Ben WarnerHOST
20:25
There's a favorite of mine, but not particularly good, Butterbur Bree Innkeeper, two green-white for a 3-3 at the beginning of Grand Step.

6 MINS LATER

Ben WarnerHOST
26:19
Yeah.
Ben WarnerHOST
26:20
So there are some good white cards in the pack.
Ben WarnerHOST
26:23
There's banished from Edoras, the exile effect, and there's a win lady of Rohan two and a white for a two, four at the beginning of combat on your turn target creature gains your choice of first strike or vigilance until end of turn.
Ben WarnerHOST
26:32
If it's equipped, it gains both instead and equip abilities.
Marie MullanyHOST
6:00
but so do some of our favorite literary works.
Marie MullanyHOST
6:03
For example, when Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli arrive at Edoras, we have that very tense scene with Hama at the doors where they are forced to surrender their weapons.
Marie MullanyHOST
6:15
That tension escalates even further when Gandalf refuses to part with his staff, giving us that famous line, surely you will not separate an old man from his walking stick.
Marie MullanyHOST
6:29
And Gandalf of course smuggles his staff, Glamdring, in past the guards in order to see Theoden and cure him of his madness.
JessicaHOST
19:27
But I think just because they specifically call these out as Alfrin seeds, I think is really interesting just because it is the Elvish name of which is the white flower that people might recognize from the Lord of the Rings.
JessicaHOST
19:44
It's the one that covers the graves of the kings below Edoras in Rohan.
JessicaHOST
19:51
And so I think that reference there, because that translation I think is only found in the Unfinished Tales.
JessicaHOST
19:57
I like this deep cut reference here.
