Yeah, no, Late Fame is really lovely.

Edmund Donovan, who plays the leader of their little clique, is really, really good.

I don't know if I've seen him in anything else, but nothing memorable up until now.

It's a very quiet movie.

The drama follows a man as he goes through a county-mandated drug court program.

But let's get started with director Kent Jones and actors Willem Dafoe and Edmund Donovan, who worked together on the film Late Fame about a relatively obscure poet whose work reaches a new audience.

[upbeat music] In the film Late Fame, Willem Dafoe plays a New York City poet named Ed Saxberger, who is super famous.

Well, at least to one group of about six people.

One day, an eager young man shows up outside of his apartment building and declares himself a fan.

His name is Meyers.

Meyers is played by Edmund Donovan.

Let's hear the moment they meet.

He meets his local pals in the bar, plays pool, fails to pick up the phone to his sister, who keeps ringing to tell him that their brother is, is, is generally unwell.

Until one day he is accosted outside his apartment by this wealthy NYU grad hipster, Myers, played by, uh, Edmund Donovan, who says That he is the center of a poetry movement called the Enthusiasm Society, and they revere Ed Saxburger as a god because years and years ago, many decades ago, he published a volume of poetry called Way Past Go, which was pretty much ignored, and he then moved on and just became a postal worker.

But this is now their Bible.

This is going to be the late fame of the title.

everything is real everything is real and the movie we saw is also called late fame and it was directed by kent jones and jones written by sammy sammy birch sammy with one m so sammy birch who also wrote may december not sammy still right And it was starring Willem Dafoe, Greta Lee and Edmund Donovan.

It premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2025.

And we saw it at Film Forum, which was actually also a really cool place to see it because Film Forum has a brief appearance in the film.

Mm.

And one day he encounters a young man, Myers, played by Edmund Donovan, waiting outside his brownstone, who timidly asks if he is the Ed Sax- Sax- uh, Saxburger, who had been in the 1960s part of the New York intelligentsia and a poet.

Uh, so Ed answers cautiously that he had been that person, and Myers can barely contain his excitement, inviting Saxburger, uh, Saxburger to join his coterie of young friends that eschew f- uh, cell phone and usage and modernity and write poetry and short works.

Well, i- isn't it.

The leader of the dilettantes who sort of presents Willem Dafoe's poet back to the world as his great rediscovery.

It's played by a guy named Edmund Donovan, who I saw several years ago on stage in Greater Clements, which is a play by Samuel D.

Hunter, who wrote The Whale.

The Whale is one of a number of plays that Hunter has written about small towns in Idaho.
