I decided that it was really important to look at this phenomenon of rebound pain after nerve block placement because clinically, when I was training as a regional anesthesiologist in fellowship, and then as an attending on the acute pain service as well as on the block service itself, someone who places these nerve blocks all the time, I would hear patients talk about, "Oh man, my pain was so bad after that nerve block wore off." And in other research studies I've done, we've interviewed patients, and they've also told us, "Man, I've had this, you know, terrible pain after the nerve block, and I wouldn't want that again," just like Dr.

Or are we actually doing something beneath the surface to the nerves that we don't know about, and that might be actually leading to some of this hypersensitivity that people see? And so, you know, as we know, it affects, like, fifty percent of the patients, you know, that receive single injection nerve blocks, which is a large population of people.
